Fleet Manager
The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of all company vehicles and landscaping equipment. This hands-on role ensures that all mechanical assets, including trucks, trailers, and specialized landscaping machinery, are safe, reliable, and fully operational to support daily production needs. The ideal candidate will bring a high level of technical knowledge, organizational capability, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. Primary Responsibilities: Diagnose and repair a wide variety of landscaping and automotive equipment to minimize downtime and ensure peak operational performance. Maintain, service, and repair:
Commercial zero-turn mowers, blowers, string trimmers, edgers, hedge trimmers, spray rigs, and compact loaders. Trucks, trailers, and other fleet vehicles. Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, belt replacements, filter changes, and inspections of safety devices and mechanical systems. Conduct on-site repairs as needed to support field crews with minimal disruption. Track, maintain, and organize accurate service records for all equipment and vehicles. Manage parts inventory and vendor communication, including part pickup and ensuring all parts are documented within inventory systems. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop, yard, and building in accordance with company and OSHA standards. Collaborate with branch and production managers to forecast equipment needs and ensure crews are properly outfitted each day. Ensure all repairs and operations comply with OSHA and company safety standards.
Qualifications: Minimum of 35 years of experience in automotive or small engine repair (landscaping or construction equipment experience preferred). Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines. Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and trailer repair. Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities. High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Positive, team-oriented attitude with strong communication skills. Basic computer proficiency for recordkeeping, research, and communication. Ability to lift 50+ lbs., work outdoors in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL a plus). Experience managing a shop or maintenance program. Bilingual in English/Spanish (preferred but not required). Familiarity with landscaping industry operations and seasonal equipment demands.
