In the role of Geotechnical Engineer, we'll count on you to: Scope, plan and execute site characterization studies and field and laboratory investigations Scope, coordinate and manage work by geotechnical subconsultants including drilling firms and testing laboratories. Prepare geologic and geotechnical designs, sketches, plans, specifications and cost estimates for transportation projects. Support and execution of geotechnical engineering analysis and design of foundations, retaining walls, site grading, subgrade, and ground improvement, static and pseudo-static stability, and pavement design Be responsible for several aspects of a small-scale project or a single aspect of a larger scale project Provide quality control / quality assurance reviews of geotechnical deliverables including those prepared by subconsultants Coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's life cycle (from development and initiation to close-out), while under supervision of a Project Manager Provide construction phase support services including review of construction quality control and quality assurance reports and data Coordinate workload through project execution and complete assigned tasks and deliverables on budget and schedule Perform other duties as needed Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geological Engineering Five years or more experience in the general field of geotechnical or geological engineering, specializing in: Subsurface investigations

Field & laboratory testing and determination of in-situ material properties

Design and construction of shallow and deep foundations

Bearing capacity and settlement

Soil mechanics

Lateral analysis of foundations and retaining walls

Slope stability evaluations

Soil compaction, earthwork construction and ground improvement

Foundation inspection and assessment

Erosion protection design Active participation in related professional societies (ASCE, AEG, DFI, Geo Institute of ASCE) The ability to work effectively within a multi-discipline project team. Experience with engineering software such as SHAFT, LPILE, SETTLE3D, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, AASHTO MEPDG, gINT, GIS, Civil 3D, or other software as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills Excellent team player with ability to function effectively in a variety of roles on integrated project teams Ability to independently complete and/or coordinate analyses associated with shallow and deep foundation design, settlement, slope stability and embankment design, retaining wall design, and deep foundation lateral response Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license Previous experience with Microsoft Office applications, MicroStation or other software as appropriate Experience with GeoStudio/Ensoft slope stability, settlement, seepage and deep foundation response software, as appropriate Experience with Bentley suite of geotechnical data management and visualization software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog) An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We Believe HDR is our company.
