The Nuclear Company is seeking an exceptional and highly experienced Principal Drone Developer to join our innovative team. As a Principal Drone Developer, you will be a visionary technical leader responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge drone systems specifically tailored for the unique challenges and stringent requirements of the nuclear energy industry. You will drive the integration of advanced sensors, intelligent flight control systems, and data processing pipelines, ensuring unparalleled precision, reliability, and safety for critical inspection, monitoring, and mapping applications within nuclear facilities. This role demands deep technical expertise, a meticulous attention to detail, and a profound commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include leading drone system architecture and development, designing communication systems for real-time data transmission, optimizing drone performance for nuclear operational needs, integrating advanced sensors, developing data acquisition and processing pipelines, refining autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms, ensuring regulatory compliance with FAA and NRC requirements, leading risk assessments and mitigation strategies, providing technical leadership and mentorship, and collaborating cross-functionally with operations, engineering, cybersecurity, and regulatory teams. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, 10+ years of progressive experience in robotics or drone development, 5+ years of expert-level experience in drone hardware, firmware, and software development for industrial applications, experience in nuclear or other highly regulated industries, expertise in flight control systems and sensor fusion, proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, Rust, experience with ROS or similar frameworks, FAA Part 107 certification or ability to obtain, and strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Preferred qualifications include experience with drone operations in radiation or confined spaces, AI/ML for computer vision or autonomous decision-making, knowledge of nuclear power plant systems, and familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for UAS.
