NARMC EMS Dispatcher

NARMC EMS Dispatchers are responsible for intake of emergency and non-emergency calls (request for medical assistance) and the dispatching of appropriate resources and responses to those requests for assistance including giving pre-arrival instructions to the caller. This position requires that the dispatcher be able to utilize multiple forms of telecommunication equipment, be able to clearly communicate with the general public as well as other professional entities, and coordinate EMS resources using established protocols to provide timely emergency response. Qualifications: Intake request for ambulance response(s) in emergency and non-emergent situations Dispatch ambulance(s) and personnel in an appropriate manner following established guidelines, policy and protocol. Provide appropriate telecommunication services through the use of multiple mediums of communications Complies with all rules and regulations pertaining to daily job functions Maintains supplies and equipment in a state of professional preparedness Works under pressure with minimal supervision Demonstrates good decision-making skills Promotes a cooperative and respectful relationship with other emergency personnel, entities or agencies Utilizes EMS units in a fair, consistent, and appropriate manner Applies communication procedures and etiquette correctly Knows and adheres to dispatch protocols and performs all included duties Keeps the dispatch area clean and organized at all times Proactively mentor students, new hires, and co-workers Takes initiative and looks for ways to improve self and service Current American Heart Association BLS certification. Job applicant will be required to successfully complete and obtain the certification of Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED). This will be required within four (4-6) months of initial hire date. NARMC EMS Department will schedule initial EMD course and will pay for this initial course and testing fees with a signed work agreement. If initial testing is unsuccessful, subsequent testing and/or course fees will be the responsibility of the job candidate. Failure to successfully acquire EMD certification through IAED will result in forfeiture of employment.
