Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Columbia & Greene Counties Capital Region Welcome Center Taste NY Market promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food, and beverages. The Market is a partnership between CCE of Columbia and Greene Counties, Cornell University, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, and the NYS Empire State Development Corporation. The Taste NY Market Manager oversees all aspects of the Market and helps ensure a welcoming environment for staff and customers. The Manager frequently builds and maintains tactful, collaborative relationships with vendors, NY State agencies, Cornell University, and other CCE associations. The Manager leads and motivates staff resulting in informal education about NYS farmers and other producers; positive customer service to members of the public; generation of sales; minimizing losses; and ensuring the store and website is visually distinctive and impeccably maintained. This position works in-person including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays based on the Market schedule ensuring appropriate staffing and supervisory coverage levels. Requirements: Bachelor's degree or an Associate's degree plus 2 years related experience. Experience relevant to the role of the position. Ability to create and maintain a welcoming environment for all. Ability to effectively manage an informal, educational-based retail environment, ensuring positive public and customer service experiences. Travel Requirements: Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required. Ability to constantly work flexible hours related to the Market schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully through verbal, written, and electronic methods. Ability to use windows-based software, QuickBooks, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and complete work with integrity, accuracy, and within established deadlines. This position frequently maneuvers around the sales floor, stockroom, and office. This position frequently operates point of sale registers, office computer, and other equipment. This position frequently lifts, moves and/or transports products, supplies and equipment. Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions: Administrative Responsibilities: Plan the Market staffing needs, budgets, inventory, menus, and events. Plan strategies to build positive, productive relationships with vendors, NY State agencies, Cornell University, and other CCE associations. Plans Market strategies in collaboration with the Executive Director, Market Operations Manager, and Finance Manager. Ensure Market focus on informal public education, marketing, and promotion of NYS farmers and other producers. Ensure Market impeccably maintained and visually appealing. Successfully manage relationships with vendors, NY State agencies, Cornell University, and other CCE associations. Provide supervision and guidance to full and part-time staff. Carry out staff supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Association's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and hiring staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Develop and review progress of assigned staff development plans as needed to increase staff competency. Assure positive, team-based employee relations. Assist in providing guidance and oversight to program volunteers. Set work schedules, ensuring adequate staffing on all shifts. Monitor Market activities (surveys, sales, foot traffic, educational programs) to ensure that outreach and research educational content support CCE's education, outreach and agricultural promotion objectives. Manage compliance with all health, safety, and other regulations. Manage Market budgets and accounts. Administer Point of Sale (POS) software associated with a cash terminal, as well as credit card processing and troubleshoot problems. Analyze detailed financial records of sales to determine marketing trends. Manage relationships with cooperating farms for data collection and contract reporting requirements, as well as program assessment. Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the Taste NY Market utilizing appropriate policies and procedures. Collaborate with CCE Agriculture/Horticulture Educators and other staff on management of marketplace activities, as assigned. Coordination and Operation: Train and orient staff. Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies (NYS Ag & Markets, Empire State Development Corporation, NYS Thruway Authority), organizations, vendors, and businesses. Promote local farms and other producers through the Market. Coordinate with outside vendors at outdoor farmers' market. Coordinate educational program materials at the Marketplace site through a variety of delivery methods. Coordinate local agriculture vendors and community impact. Maintain four Taste NY vending machines including stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting. Work with agriculture/horticulture educators in the region, as assigned. Assist with the preparation of Taste NY progress reports for funders. Procure products based on needs and trends. Assist in creation and maintenance of an interactive kiosk to identify and promote local farms and farm products. Promote agri-tourism in the region and throughout New York State on local farms and products, via a variety of methods including informational kiosk and informational brochures, as appropriate Participate in promotional efforts related to the Taste NY Market via press releases, articles, social media and web-based communications. Produce detailed reports on sales of products. Prepare and maintain detailed financial records of sales. Interface with cooperating farms to collect data for contract reporting requirements and program assessment. Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures. Professional Improvement: In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned. Health and Safety: Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment. Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard. Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
