Full Time Grossing Technician

US News & World Report. We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full Time, Grossing Technician at our NY Pathology Lab in Pearl River, NY. About the Role: The Grossing Technician plays a crucial role in the pathology lab by preparing and processing tissue specimens for diagnostic examination. This position ensures that all specimens are accurately grossed, documented, and preserved according to established protocols, which is vital for accurate diagnosis and patient care. The technician will work closely with pathologists and other laboratory staff to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency in specimen handling. Attention to detail and adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines are essential to prevent contamination and ensure the integrity of samples. Ultimately, the Grossing Technician contributes significantly to the overall success of the laboratory in delivering timely and accurate results to healthcare providers. Schedule: Full Time, Overnight, Monday-Friday, 8:00pm-4:00am, with 10% shift pay differential. Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

NY State License as a clinical laboratory histotechnician, technologist, or pathologists' assistant

Basic understanding of laboratory safety protocols

A minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical histology laboratory Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's degree in a related field such as biology or health sciences

Completion of a medical terminology course

Certification as a Histotechnologist (HTL) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Responsibilities:

Receive and log tissue specimens into the laboratory information system.

Prepare specimens for gross examination by cutting, measuring, and describing them accurately.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and health regulations.

Assist pathologists in the gross examination process and ensure proper documentation of findings.

Participate in quality control measures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the lab. Skills: The required skills for this position include strong attention to detail, which is essential for accurately processing and documenting specimens. Effective communication skills are necessary to collaborate with pathologists and other lab staff, ensuring that all procedures are followed correctly. Time management skills are also important, as the technician must prioritize tasks to meet deadlines for specimen processing. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with laboratory information systems, enhance the technician's ability to efficiently log and track specimens. Additionally, a solid understanding of medical terminology aids in accurate reporting and communication within the healthcare team.
