Attorney General Fellowship Program: Post-Grad Opportunity
The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is recruiting applicants for the 2026 Attorney General Fellowship Program. The following are some program highlights: This is a two (2) year program for six (6) law school graduates. Placements begin in September 2026 and conclude in August 2028. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in working as a public service attorney. Fellows work as junior attorneys and receive training and mentorship. Fellows work to protect the rights and interests of the state and people of New York. Fellows gain hands-on legal experience by working on investigations, affirmative and defensive litigation, public education, and community outreach projects. For 2026, we are offering one (1) placement in each of the following bureaus: Placements in New York City
Executive Division:
Handles complex investigations and civil enforcement actions to end and remediate practices that harm the public, including matters that relate to the opioid crisis and firearms. Litigation Bureau:
Represents the state, its officers, and its agencies in state and federal courts in actions involving almost every substantive area of the law. Protect Our Homes Initiative (POHI):
An interdisciplinary team with expertise in criminal and civil enforcement that seeks to preserve ownership by protecting New York homeowners from fraud and scams. Placements in Other Locations
Rochester Regional Office (RO):
Helps to carry out essential defensive, regulatory, and affirmative justice functions. Sex Offender Management Bureau (SOMB):
Represents the state in all Mental Hygiene Law Article 10 litigation. Suffolk Regional Office (RO):
Helps to carry out essential defensive, regulatory, and affirmative justice functions. The AG Fellowship Team reserves the right to make placement assignments based on the needs of OAG. The OAG is unable to provide funding to cover moving or relocation costs. Fellows receive a salary and benefits. The annual salary is $83,594 plus location pay where applicable (New York City and Suffolk: $4,000). Benefits include the following: Health, dental, and vision insurance Retirement programs Workplace flexibility programs and other family-friendly policies A commitment to complete the two (2) year Fellowship term is a condition of employment. Minimum Qualifications Fellowship Applicants: The OAG is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to a workplace that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Eligibility for the 2026 AG Fellowship Program, includes the following: Law students who are graduating from their JD program during the academic year 2025-26. Admission to the New York State Bar within the Fellow's first year is a condition of continued employment. Therefore, Fellows must be registered to complete the following exams/courses: Take the Unified Bar Exam (UBE) offered in either February 2026 or July 2026. Take the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) offered in either March 2026 or August 2026. To register for the New York Law Exam (NYLE), you must complete all segments of the New York Law Course (NYLC) at least 30 days before the date of the next NYLE. Take the NYLE at one of the times offered in 2025 or by September 2026 at the latest. We are seeking a diverse pool of applicants, including the following: Critical and creative thinkers. Strong legal writing, analytical, and organizational skills. Demonstrated commitment to public service and social, economic, and criminal justice. Fluency in other languages is a plus but not required.
