Telemetry Data Analyst
to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Rsum of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.
The Telemetry Data Analyst will process, analyze, and interpret animal telemetry data to investigate movement patterns, behavior, and environmental interactions of protected marine species. The analyst will contribute to spatial modeling and the development of predictive tools for species management.
Responsibilities
Clean and analyze telemetry data (e.g., satellite, acoustic, archival tags) from marine mammals and sea turtles. Develop and apply movement and state-space models to interpret behavior. Integrate telemetry data with environmental datasets to assess drivers of movement. Support stock assessment and conservation planning by contributing to abundance and habitat use estimates. Produce scientific documentation, visualizations, and peer-reviewed publications. Participate in deployment and recovery of telemetry devices in the field, as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's/PhD in quantitative ecology, marine biology, or related field.Experience working with animal tracking data and associated analytical tools . Strong statistical and programming background (R, Splus, SAS, Python, C++ or similar software). Familiarity with telemetry sensors, tag metadata, and marine species movement ecology. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
