Assistant Director Of Fellowships, Graduate College

The Assistant Director of Fellowships in the Graduate College supports significant and sustained growth in external fellowship and grant pursuit by graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across the University of Vermont. This role develops and leads strategy and programming to support pre- and postdoctoral fellowship pursuit and offers individual advising to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The Assistant Director will: identify external funding opportunities and communicate them to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars; collaboratively develop and lead fellowship and grant-writing support programming; serve as liaison with internal and external stakeholders in support of enhanced grant and fellowship pursuit; offer 1:1 coaching to pre- and postdoctoral scholars; support data collection and assessment of fellowship and grant seeking. Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience): Bachelor's degree and two to five years of relevant work experience. Effective organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written communication and editorial skills. Ability to articulate, develop, and manage program initiatives. Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide range of groups, including students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Knowledge of the grant application process and effective grant writing techniques. Familiarity with the range of competitive fellowship opportunities for both pre- and postdoctoral scholars. Sound judgement and ability to anticipate potential problems. Ability to track and manage multiple projects with attention to detail. Desirable Qualifications: Advanced degree in a STEM discipline. At least three years of experience working in higher education or with nonprofits. Familiarity with the culture of a research university and the breadth of university systems. Strong familiarity with graduate education and postdoctoral training. Confident public speaker comfortable presenting to a variety of audiences.
