Job Opportunity At Newport News Behavioral Health Center

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108-bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18 years. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities. The Recreation Therapist position is responsible for planning, developing, providing, and evaluating clinical recreation therapy/treatment for residents and/or patients at the Newport News Behavioral Health Center. Specialized recreation therapy techniques are used to meet the physical, social, emotional, cultural, and rehabilitative needs of clients/patients. Position functions as a team member in all aspects of clinical decision-making and with the construction of multidisciplinary treatment planning. Primary duties and responsibilities include: Develops individualized therapeutic strategies for assigned patients and documents on the master treatment plan within 10 days of admission Conducts goal-oriented recreation therapy groups Documents informative progress notes on each patient for each intervention with compliance with all applicable standards Prepares the recreation therapy discharge plan for each patient assigned Assists in the development and evaluation of recreation therapy standards for the facility Provides transportation and supervision for Recreation Therapy outings Solicits input from staff in developing weekend, holiday, and vacation activity for the patients on each unit Attends continuing education or staff development activities as needed Develops and implements adjunctive therapy treatment plans and assessments in concert with the interdisciplinary treatment team Newport News Behavioral Health offers comprehensive benefits such as: Challenging and rewarding work environment Competitive compensation Excellent medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug plan Generous paid time off 401(K) with company match and discounted stock plan Career development opportunities Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field or 2 years experience in the recreation or activities department of an inpatient psychiatric or substance abuse facility Preferred 1 year experience working and/or treating adolescents He/she must hold a Certification in Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS), be CPR certified, and hold a valid Virginia driver's license EEO Statement: All UHS subsidiaries are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates.
