Data Analyst
This position will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting datasets to drive strategic business decisions and support operational efficiency, performance improvements, and growth initiatives. Key responsibilities include analyzing complex data sets to identify trends, patterns and insights, developing dashboards and reports to communicate findings to stakeholders, collaborating with business units to understand data needs and objectives, provide data-driven recommendations to support strategic planning and to ensure data accuracy, integrity and consistency across systems. Duties/Responsibilities
Data Collection, Management & Analysis (20%) Gather, clean, and organize data from various sources (databases, APIs, spreadsheets, etc.). Ensure data integrity and consistency across platforms. Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies. Perform exploratory data analysis to support business inquiries. Propose and help implement new data tools or systems to enhance analytical capabilities. Reporting & Visualization (20%) Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel. Translate complex data findings into clear visual presentations for stakeholders. Track KPIs and other performance metrics to evaluate the success of business initiatives. Create ad-hoc analyses to respond to specific business questions. Stay current with industry trends, analytics tools, and best practices. Business Insights & Recommendations (20%) Provide actionable insights that support strategic and operational decision-making. Recommend process improvements and identify opportunities for cost savings or revenue growth. Work closely with departments across the University and IT to understand business needs. Act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders. Data Governance & Compliance (20%) Adhere to data privacy and governance standards. Assist in implementing data quality controls and documentation. Recommend data standardization practices to ensure data values, fields, tables and variables follow a uniform structure. Align data standards across different databases, platforms, or business units. Project Support (20%) Participate in business projects by providing analytical support and insights. Help define business and data requirements and support implementation planning. Design testing requirements and protocols and provide end-user support for user acceptance testing. Lead and manage projects from small to enterprise scale. Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree or 6+ years of experience as a Business Data Analyst. Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Excellent communication and presentation skills Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of data governance, quality, standardization, and lifecycle management. Familiarity with techniques like regression, clustering, forecasting, A/B testing. Understanding of how data flows between systems, and how it's stored in data lakes/warehouses. Ability to break down complex problems and extract meaningful insights from data. Ability to translate data into actionable insights and explain technical findings to non-technical audiences. Strong Attention to detail and ability to think strategically to see the bigger picture while managing granular data work. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work with deadlines and collaborate across teams. Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) Experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle, specifically writing business and data requirements, developing and executing test plans.
