The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a Trades Generalist. As a Trades Generalist, you would be responsible for journey-level work in the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of a wide variety of building systems and components. This may include electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and air conditioning, including overhauling pumps and electric motors, replacing parts and controls as necessary, and installing new equipment. You will perform required maintenance and emergency repairs of facilities and equipment in Zone areas. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining various building systems in a proper, safe, and timely manner. To be successful in this position, you'll need a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which they are assigned. You may supervise and/or train other trade positions in the repair and maintenance of building equipment consistent with their skills, assign work, provide directions, observe work, and inspect upon completion. Required Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications: Department operating needs include the ability to troubleshoot and repair/replace electrical fixtures, lights, motors, receptacles, and switches; ability to troubleshoot, repair, and replace toilets, showers, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures; ability to repair and replace doors, windows, cabinets, flooring, and furniture; ability to read building blueprints; ability to understand and follow instructions; proven record of dependability and past work performance; possession of computer skills adequate to work with computerized maintenance management systems and other computerized applications as assigned. Job Duties/Responsibilities: General Maintenance Activities: 35% - Preventive maintenance on equipment including sprinkler systems, exit lights, generators, pumps, motors, air handlers, exhaust fans, make up air systems, VAV, hot water systems, building envelop, roof, and drain systems; general repairs on doors, walls, floors, glass, furniture, masonry, lock repair, building envelop. Plumbing Activities: 15% - Removal and installation of plumbing equipment and service to buildings; fixture replacements including toilets, sinks, showers, etc.; unclogging drains and piping in new or repairing old systems, jetting sewer systems; soldering and brazing; work with rainwater systems; stake outs. HVAC Activities: 10% - Repair and replacement of heating and A/C parts; replacing filters, belts, motors; work with geothermal systems; work with steam and their parts, traps, Spence valve, lines and condensation systems, tube bundles, valves, and some controls; work on air handlers, make-up air units, exhaust fans, VAV, humidifiers; work on hot water systems, heating and domestic systems, HWT, pumps, explanation tanks, piping and repair of the piping system. Electrical Activities: 10% - Replacement of light ballast; repair and replacement of fixtures, lights, exit signs, motors; repair and installation of wiring, switches, plugs, conduit, and wire mold; work on and repair controls and low voltage systems; work on and repair power outages. Construction & Installation: 10% - Construction and installation of any walls, ceilings, floors, windows, carpet systems, cabinets, sinks, etc.; responsible for a working knowledge of applicable building codes. Carpentry Activities: 10% - Read blueprints and interpret building and furniture plans; maintenance and repair of doors, walls, windows, ceilings, roofs, counters, cabinets, flooring, furniture, millwork, glass, etc.; care and maintenance of all carpentry machinery, tools (hand & motorized), etc.; planning and estimating of materials & parts for repairs and projects; plan, layout, and complete a variety of carpentry repairs. Building Controls Activities: 5% - Work with building controls and the campus E.M.S. system (Energy Management System); work with controls, pneumatics, thermostats, valves, motor drives, dampers, fire alarms, electronic door locking systems; work with computers and their controls; lighting systems controls. Supervision Activities: 5% - Instruct SG-9's in day-to-day operation and duties of the day; check on and report on the job status of SG-9's.
