The Jomaa Lab at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team studying the molecular basis of protein biogenesis at the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. Our lab combines cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cellular cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), biochemistry, and cell biology to uncover how protein targeting and translation are regulated under physiological and stress conditions. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in: Mammalian cell culture, including HEK293 or similar lines CRISPR-based gene editing for knockouts and knock-ins Yeast genetics and manipulation Structural biology techniques, particularly single-particle cryo-EM or cryo-ET Biochemical assays for ribosome and membrane protein complexes Familiarity with Linux, MATLAB, Python, or other computational tools is a plus This position provides an excellent opportunity to work on high-resolution structural and cellular biology projects, using state-of-the-art instrumentation and in close collaboration with expert labs in biophysics, cell biology, and disease modeling. Minimum requirements: Education: Doctoral degree Experience: None Licensure: None The position will remain open until filled. The selected applicants will be required to complete a background check prior to their first day of employment per University policy.
