Senior Academic Advisor, College Of Natural Sciences

Provide academic advising for students in biosciences fields; primarily Chemistry disciplines. Serve as liaison between the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Undergraduate Education and CNS Chemistry Department for faculty interactions, student facing logistics, and other college-level needs. Oversee projects between academic affairs staff at the departmental level and student affairs at the Dean's Office level and ensure collaboration between staff across both units within CNS. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students. Provide academic advising for students. Comfortable with managing an assigned caseload of 300+ students. Understanding and using legal guidelines of advising practice, including privacy regulations and confidentiality. Create rapport and build academic advising relationships. Plan and conduct successful advising interactions. Promote student understanding of the logic and purpose of the curriculum. Communicate institution specific policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Use campus and community resources to support student success. Working on projects that will assist Chemistry Advising, the Department of Chemistry, College of Natural Sciences and University of Texas. Serves as liaison to Department of Chemistry leadership, faculty, and faculty advisor. Engage in on-going assessment and development of the advising practice. Connect with departmental stakeholders on college-wide policies for Chemistry and CNS updates and disseminate updates to the CNS Advising team on a regular basis. Attend professional meetings, lead workshops, facilitate student learning communities, and trainings. Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS. Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience working with college students in an academic counseling capacity. Demonstrated ability to effectively provide academic and non-academic advising to students. Ability to teach, present, and/or train student audiences. Excellent verbal, written, digital and virtual communication skills. Excellent analytical skills. Proficiency with MS Excel and other relevant software. Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities. Proven ability to effectively and positively collaborate with others. Superb written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. Must be student-centered and focused on student success. Ability to anticipate next steps and initiate action without being asked. Proven ability to act with discretion and hold necessary information confidential. Limited evening and weekend hours may be required. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Must be able to work in-person on UT-Austin Austin campus. Master's degree in related field. Experience in higher education setting working with student success initiatives. Staff and student program implementation experience. $50,000 May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
