BayCare offers two different options: the Earn as you Learn Program and BayCare Health System's partnership with the Ultimate Medical Academy Training Program What does a Patient Care Technician do? The Patient Care Technician assists our nursing staff in providing for our patients' physical and emotional needs. Some basic skills and tasks will include, providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Assist the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care as directed by the RN. Provide basic nursing responsibilities such as bathing, helping the patient with toileting needs, bed-making, assisting the patient walk/move, feeding, taking vital signs, and entering data into the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Additional training will be provided for additional technical skills such as sterile technique and urinary catheter insertion. Two Program Types and Program Details

Ultimate Medical Academy Nursing Assistant Program Employment Status and Job Title while in program Full Time, PCT Nurse Helper Pool via SRO (works 24 hours per pay period during program and attends class on other days) Program length 4 weeks 8 weeks Class Schedule Monday through Friday Classroom days: 7:30am-3pm Clinical days: 6:30am-2pm Classroom days: Weeks 1

This position requires no previous nursing or healthcare work experience. However, it does require a person who is dedicated to learning patient care and using those skills to make a difference in people's lives every day. Requirements: High school diploma or GED Attendance is required in every class and clinical shift.
