Position reports to: Maintenance Manager Manage or Supervise: None Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, this position will perform skilled duties under the guidance of a journeyman level mechanic to perform all maintenance activities in the maintenance department and related equipment. This is a manual, skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline mechanical equipment. An employee of this class may be assigned a special phase of maintenance and repair, or assigned to general mechanical repair work, or some combination of work duties including assisting a mechanic of higher level in the performance of large and complex repair jobs. On routine jobs or jobs in which employee has demonstrated competence, employee may work without immediate direction. However, the work is subject to inspection by a journeyman level mechanic during progress and upon completion for quality and conformity with specifications. Specific assignments are usually received orally, and work is performed under supervision of a journeyman level mechanic. Employees must be able to drive buses and other vehicles to make bus changes on routes as needed. On occasion, repairs will be made in the field. Examples Of Duties

The Mechanic will perform parts replacement, mechanical repairs, servicing, and cleaning tasks required in maintaining mechanical equipment. Assists in the repair and overhaul of mechanical components on busses, automobiles, and other Authority equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on various types of vehicles and equipment with either gas or diesel engines, including but not limited to, checking fluid levels for grease, oil, and other fluids, and ensures vehicles are properly maintained. Performs inspections of mechanical operation of buses including but not limited to suspension wear and brake adjustment. Assists Operations in coordination of bus assignments and changes. Road Road test repaired vehicles, identify and adjust defects in motorized equipment. Performs other duties as required. Typical Qualifications

Required Qualifications Knowledge of: Comprehensive knowledge of modern methods, tools and equipment of the diesel and automotive mechanical trade. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and mechanics of all diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines. Comprehensive knowledge of hazards and safety precautions followed in diesel equipment repair shops. Ability to:

Ability to identify and correct defects in diesel automotive equipment. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions with minimal supervision. Assist a mechanic of a higher level in the performance of large and complex repair jobs. Ability to operate transit buses and other agency vehicles, and ability to operate basic hand tools Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. At least two years of diesel or automotive apprentice training work is required, or a combination of education and experience to successfully perform essential job functions. Licensures/Certifications and Other Requirements: Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation Physical and Substance Abuse test prior to employment. All applicants must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States prior to employment. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and an acceptable driving record. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger Endorsements (P1) and Air Brake Restrictions removed. Must have own hand tools required to perform job duties. This position is a safety-sensitive position subject to FTA random drug and alcohol testing throughout the term of employment.
