This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair of city streets and related infrastructure. Examples Of Duties

Major duties include: Supervising and/or participating in the training of new employees and all temporary help. Supervising and/or performing the pick-up of trash and garbage spills on roadways, public parks, and other city-owned areas. Supervising and/or participating in asphalt and concrete installation and repair in the public right-of-way. Supervising and/or participating in the clearing of brush, cutting and edging grass/weeds with hand tools and power-operated machines (i.e., commercial mowers and bush-hogging) within public rights-of-way. Supervising and/or participating in the general care of lawns and grounds; removing dirt, rubbish, weeds, leaves, and other refuse from grounds, planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers. Assisting the Public Works Field Operations Manager in the long-range plans for the Street Department. Keeping updated on current developments in the field. Supervising and giving input on orders of materials, equipment, and supplies for the Department. Supervising and/or performing general maintenance along streets including sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, stormwater ponds, ditches, and in public parks. Assisting in supervising and/or performing trash pickup including the operation of the knuckle boom truck throughout the City. Supervising and/or performing herbicide spraying within City limits. Supervising and/or participating in the clearing of ditches with bush cutter, digs ditches and shovels, places sandbags, and performs related works in trenches or excavations with water in excavation. Assisting in scheduling routine maintenance of equipment used by the Street Department division. Assisting in coordinating and planning of work schedules and assignment of duties. Supervising the creation of street signs for the City. Managing disciplinary matters and effectively resolving conflicts within a team environment. Keeping records and other data daily. Performing related duties. Typical Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include: High school diploma or GED. Six (6) years of street maintenance experience, preferably within Street/Road Department environment. Five (5) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment. Pass field proficiency test issued by the Field Operations Manager within six (6) months of employment. Previous experience performing heavy manual labor. Possession of or the ability to obtain State of Florida driver's license at the time of employment with an acceptable driving record for the City's insurance program. Possession of or the ability to obtain Class B CDL issued by the State of Florida (Class A is preferred) within one (1) year of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain Road Safety and Heavy Equipment Training (MOT Intermediate) from FDOT within one (1) year of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain the ROW Herbicide Spray License within one (1) year of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain the Aquatic Herbicide Spray License within one (1) year of employment. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Supplemental Information

Knowledge required by the position includes: Knowledge of street construction and maintenance principles. Knowledge of work safety principles and practices. Knowledge of City purchasing policies. Knowledge of street maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles. Knowledge of computers, job-related computer applications, and keyboarding skills necessary for successful performance. Skill in the use of construction equipment. Skill in the use of hand and power tools. Skill in prioritizing and planning. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skills in oral and written communication. Ability to keep accurate records and work orders. Ability to read, interpret, and apply operating policies and procedures. Ability to train and supervise large groups, including managing disciplinary matters. Ability to create and manage work schedules. Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to operate knuckle boom truck and boom axe. Ability to supervise the creation of street signs. Ability to perform all street-related duties. Supervisory controls are assigned by the Public Works Field Operations Manager with spot-checks for compliance. The work consists of varied management, supervisory, and technical maintenance duties. The work is performed in an office or outdoors, in extreme heat and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to sun, noise, dust, dirt, grease, chemicals, traffic, machinery with moving parts, and other hazards. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. This position has direct supervision over Street Maintenance Workers and Street Maintenance Worker Trainees.
