Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Materials Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The Materials Engineer will be a part of the Electrolyte Technologies team, assisting personnel on a variety of projects relating to solid-state electrolytes, with a specific focus on critical material scaleup, process development, synthesis & characterization.
Job Duties
Contribute to experimental designs toward the discovery and characterization of next-generation electrolytes and electrode materials
Conduct highly systematic DOEs toward critical path material development
Conduct relevant characterization (e.g. physical and electrochemical ionic transport) on electrolytes and electrode materials
Participate with cross-functional teams to introduce and execute process improvements and/or equipment upgrades to improve functionality and manufacturability
Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation
Interface with Cell Technologies team for the ASSB cell performance evaluation of the electrolytes to improve product qualities
Participate with cross-functional teams to develop next-generation materials and transfer developed materials and processes to the pilot scale
Conform to all safety precautions and protocols
Document and follow standard operating procedures for Solid Powers production equipment as well as assist in drafting or editing procedures during process development
Mentor junior team members, operators, and interns
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. Degree in chemistry, materials science or related discipline
2+ years experience in the chemical industry desirable
Knowledge of structural and/or synthetic chemistry
Experience in material characterization techniques (e.g. XRD, TGA, DSC, FT-IR, Raman)
Hands-on experience working with hazardous materials, dry powder processes, and wet chemical/slurry and solvent-based operations
Excellent work ethic and ability to quickly demonstrate independence
Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving research development needs
Structured problem-solving and analytical skills
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
Ability to lift 10-20 lbs, up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
Salary Range:
$80,000 - $135,000/annually
