Packaging Buyer

The Packaging Buyer is responsible for strategic packaging procurement activities, including high-value sourcing, design, standardization and optimization, contract negotiation, supplier relationship management, and process improvement initiatives. This advanced-level role requires a deep understanding of supply chain dynamics and the ability to influence decisions across suppliers and departments. Location: This position requires on-site work at Gentex facilities. This role is not eligible for remote work. What You'll Do

Engage in the development and implementation of strategic sourcing plans for packaging commodities to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets. Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, and cost structures to drive informed purchasing decisions. Conduct continuous improvement efforts around improving total landed cost, pack density, quality, offshore sourcing, using a lens of auto industry best practices and best in class packaging standards. Serve as subject matter expert for packaging design with participation and collaboration on the packaging commodity team involving engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure supplier alignment to product and operational requirements. Support supplier performance evaluation and manage corrective actions to resolve quality, delivery, or service issues. Support supplier development and risk mitigation efforts to strengthen the supply base and ensure continuity of supply. Negotiate supplier contracts and long-term agreements to secure favorable terms and minimize risk. Propose and develop tools for tracking and packaging standards ex. Gentex Plan for Every Part (PFEP) Track and report on internal metrics and key performance indicators. Other duties as assigned. How You'll Do It

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in automotive packaging, purchasing, supply chain, or a related function. Excellent understanding of procurement processes and supply chain principles. Strong expertise in contract negotiation, supplier management, and procurement strategy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities. Proven ability to work independently and lead cross-functional initiatives. Ability to travel as needed. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. What Will Help

Professional certification (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, CSCP) strongly preferred. Experience in packaging global sourcing, logistics, and supply risk management. Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies. Background in automotive manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
