Senior Media Relations Manager

Charleston, South Carolina The Senior Media Relations Manager leads a team of 2 or more media relations managers, helps engage the RHNs marketing and communications leads, serves as the primary point of contact for critical enterprise media inquiries, proactively seeks media opportunities through well-crafted pitches, ensures consistent and positive media coverage and analysis of the team's efforts. This person must be a strategic thinker with strong communication skills, a proven track record in media relations, and experience working in health care and education. 35% - Media Relations Build and implement strategic and effective media relations plans to promote MUSC and its OneMUSC initiatives. Proactively build media relationships and seek media opportunities through well-crafted pitches, ensure consistent and positive media coverage and analysis of the team's efforts. Build reactive responses in a crisis situation in collaboration with leadership. Serve as the institutional spokesperson, interfacing with media to build and maintain a positive public image for the MUSC Enterprise. 15% - Leadership Lead a team of two or more media relations managers, helping to engage the RHN's marketing and communications leads and serve as the primary point of contact for critical media inquiries. Coordinate with content strategy team for content and sharing of stories. Plan and oversee all staffing levels in assigned department. Manage, recruit, interview, hire, train and monitor employees. Perform annual reviews and assessments. Communicate job expectations and responsibilities, while supervising, discipling and mentoring employees and work systems. Manage the departmental budget and communicate proper fiscal policies to the entire team. 30% - Enterprise Collaboration Support ICCE and University plans and relationships with cross-functional leaders to help identify subject matter experts for media stories. Collaborate with the Director of Public Relations, Public Relations and Communications team members and others, to develop key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of strategic media plans, media coverage and media outreach efforts. 15% - Training and Support Build processes and procedures for the media relations department to ensure smooth operations. Own Meltwater and other vendor relationships, as needed. Complete training on all platforms necessary to create, track and pull PR and news media data and analytics (Google Analytics, Meltwater, Monday.com, etc). Support media training efforts and all other duties as assigned. 5% - Other Duties Perform additional tasks assigned. Additional Job Description A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. At least 5 years of related work experience required; 7 years preferred. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
