Overview: Performs a variety of manually value-added processes within several manufacturing areas which may include electroplating housing and connectors, chem-filming manufactured products, mark-up and touch up; processes follow established procedures within the traveler document; employee may perform and know at a minimum one or more processes within each of the areas in one of the following labs: plating, etching, painting, mark-up, touch-up and/or chem-film. Responsibilities: Essential functions and duties include: Finishing lab: Read and understand painting details and notes per drawing requirement Masking and demasking per approved documentation Surface preparation cleaning prior to painting Operate paint thickness measurement per spec Work with paint remover using paint stripper Set-up, mixing and preparation of painting components Perform wet tape adhesion test Cleaning and maintenance of HVLP, paint booth and ovens Perform weekly paint inventory Painting application using HVLP Work with different types of painting and finishes Run paint coupons and perform wet adhesion test Use PPE during the paint application like respirator, gloves and safety glasses Load and unload units in the oven Inspect units per spec requirement Coat surface parts with epoxy, polyurethane paints, primers, wash primers or other material per Military Specifications using spray guns and other devices; remove old paint from assemblies Use the paint shaker Apply wash primer, primer and topcoat Perform viscosity test Fill out paint logbooks Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; ability to measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; ability to understand and perform decimal, fraction and metric calculations and conversion; ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs Ability to work with SAP to provide electronic paint inventory Ability to ask questions and rephrase statements to clarify meaning; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions Ability to read, interpret and comprehend complex written and verbal complex instructions Ability to interpret Material safety data sheets All Painters: Use microscope for inspection of production units; obtain blueprints from satellite files for part production Participate in safety training and actively comply with safety policies and practices Improve and maintain 5S in your area; make suggestions for improvements Participate in Lean/Six Sigma activities in own work area as well as events for other areas to enhance cross-functional problem solving Collaborate in team meetings and activities, including SET team support as appropriate Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: Minimum job qualifications include: Four (4) years of experience in one of the lab mentioned above Detail-oriented, good manual and hand-eye dexterity High school diploma or equivalent required Preferred: Experience in Epoxy and polyurethane coating Familiar with paint ratios and paint gun settings Paint certificate or equivalent Pay Range: $24.06- $38.14/hour (San Diego). Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
