Financial Counselor
Provides financial counseling to patients and their families. Assists with insurance verification and eligibility, assessment of patient financial requirements and insurance policies, and obtaining preauthorization for all services. Ensures that all patient issues regarding insurance claims and cost of care are handled properly. Gains confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers through competent job performance, attentive monitoring and care, and effective communication. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. Collections of financial responsibility. Collaborates with ancillary departments. Financial Counseling Services: Reviews patient insurance claims, paperwork and medical bills for accuracy and completeness. Supports patients with insurance issues and maintains contact with insurance companies to resolve billing issues as quickly as possible. Communicates with patients in a clear and professional manner to ensure cooperation and alleviate fear and anxiety. Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames. Collaborates with contracting and case management regarding LOA/self pay services and will follow billing/financial assistance policy. Clerical: Performs general clerical tasks, such as answering phones and interacting with customers and patients on a daily basis. Prepares and completes accurate, job related documentation, including maintaining a detailed log of requests and assignments. Safety: Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including organizing files and keeping desks free of loose papers and clutter. Compliance: Performs job responsibilities in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of service. Maintains strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure. Education: HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience Typical Experience: 1 year of recent relevant experience.
