The Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine offers an exceptional opportunity for a qualified anatomy medical educator to join our faculty. The successful applicant will serve as a theme director for the longitudinal anatomy curriculum and collaborate with basic scientists and clinicians from various disciplines and specialties to develop and teach human anatomy content within the preclerkship phase of our integrated MD curriculum, and assess learner competency. The successful applicant will also serve as a core preclerkship faculty member in cross-disciplinary teaching activities and academic coaching of preclerkship students, implement appropriate technologies that support excellent teaching and learning, and serve as a member of relevant curriculum and assessment planning committees that develop and continuous improve the school's systems-based preclerkship curriculum blocks. Position Requirements: PhD in anatomy or a related field and at least three years of experience teaching clinically oriented anatomy including expertise in cadaveric dissection Experience teaching medically relevant anatomy in all systems Evidence of excellence in teaching utilizing various pedagogical approaches (e.g., lecture-based instruction, large- and small- group teaching, dissection laboratory teaching) Willingness to contribute to multidisciplinary biomedical instruction in various education settings Experience with formative and summative assessment of medical student performance Preferred Expertise and Experience: Expertise in additional content areas, including histology, embryology, neuroanatomy, pathophysiology, and medical imaging would be highly valued Experience with development and implementation of curricula using innovative pedagogical approaches (e.g., team-based or case-based learning, simulation, hybrid teaching models) either in anatomy or across disciplines Evidence of educational scholarship This tenure-track position will be salaried, and the person selected for this position is expected to devote 75-100% effort to this role. Support for the remainder of the effort may be determined based on the interests and qualifications of the applicant and the needs of the home department. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Factors that will be considered for selection and for determination of rank include: Strong leadership skills and ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, faculty, and students of diverse cultural backgrounds Ability to create measurable goals, set timelines and meet deadlines Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and an ability to approach challenges with flexibility, creativity and innovation Experience with learning management systems and other educational platforms to support transition to virtual learning when necessary.
