Fourth Grade Classroom Teacher

Sidwell Friends Lower School, a coeducational Quaker day school located in Bethesda, MD, seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered Fourth Grade Classroom Teacher to join its Lower School faculty for the 20252026 school year. The Fourth Grade Classroom Teacher will co-lead a homeroom of 2224 students alongside a teaching partner, sharing full responsibility for all areas of instruction. As a member of a six-person fourth grade teaching team, this individual will contribute to a vibrant program grounded in academic rigor, joyful discovery, and deep respect for each child's unique journey. Key Responsibilities

Co-plan and co-teach reading, writing, math, and social studies. Create a student-centered, inclusive classroom environment that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy. Design and implement differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Collaborate closely with co-teachers and grade-level teammates to shape curriculum and instructional practices. Support students' social-emotional development using responsive and developmentally appropriate strategies. Maintain regular communication with families to foster partnership and share student growth. Assess and monitor student learning through a variety of formative and summative tools. Participate fully in the life of the school, including faculty meetings, duties, school events, and Meetings for Worship. Align with or integrate key approaches such as structured literacy, Illustrative Math, and Responsive Classroom. Required Qualifications

At least three years of successful elementary classroom teaching experience. Demonstrated success in co-teaching or team-based instructional environments. Strong differentiation skills and commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy. Deep belief in a student-centered, whole-child approach to learning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with structured literacy, Illustrative Math, and Responsive Classroom. Familiarity with Quaker education and/or independent schools. Education

Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
