Department: Online Learning & Academic Technology Location: Jerry Sue Thornton Center Reports To: Executive Director, Online Learning & Academic Tech Recruitment Type: External/Internal Employment Type: Administration and Professionals Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: Standard College Hours: M-F, 8:30am-5pm Number of Openings: 1 Job Description: SUMMARY The Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and technical support of D2L's Brightspace platform and its integrated applications. This role ensures that the LMS aligns with institutional technology policies and supports the Office of Online Learning & Academic Technology. Key responsibilities include configuring system settings, managing updates and integrations, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and collaborating with vendors and internal teams. The administrator also supports faculty, staff, and students by managing user roles, resolving access issues, and maintaining course structures to ensure a seamless online learning experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Administers and supports the day-to-day operations of the Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS) and related academic technologies Designs, delivers, and evaluates training workshops and resources for faculty, staff, and students to promote effective use of academic technologies Provides technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end users, ensuring timely resolution of issues related to Brightspace and integrated tools Collaborates with Information Technology Services, Instructional Design, Faculty Development, and Online Learning teams to maintain and enhance academic technology systems Serves as the primary technical liaison with D2L and third-party vendors for issue resolution, system updates, and integration support Manages course and organization creation, enrollment processes, and user role assignments within Brightspace Monitors system performance, diagnoses technical issues, and ensures high availability and reliability of academic technology platforms Installs, configures, and maintains LMS updates, upgrades, LTI integrations, and other software components Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and strategic plans related to LMS use and academic technology services Contributes to short- and long-term planning efforts to support the growth and sustainability of academic technology infrastructure Develops and maintains user documentation, tutorials, and technical guides to support system adoption and user success Compiles and provides administrative data and system usage reports to support institutional planning and decision-making Ensures compliance with accessibility standards, data privacy regulations, and institutional IT policies Stays current with emerging trends and best practices in learning technologies and applies them to enhance system functionality and user experience Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Information Systems, Education, or a related field. Significant related experience may substitute for education Minimum of five years of demonstrated full-time experience in LMS administration, including platforms such as D2L Brightspace, Blackboard Learn, Canvas, or Moodle Possess experience in process mapping, workflow design, and configuration planning for institution-wide LMS implementation and administration Demonstrated experience with Windows Server environments (20122019), Brightspace LTI integrations, directory services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP), HTML, and integration with student information systems such as Banner Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions with significant impact on departmental operations and management Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply diverse approaches across a variety of technical and operational scenarios Proven experience supporting faculty and end users in the implementation and use of educational technologies within a higher education environment Successful completion of D2L Brightspace Administrator training or certification programs (e.g., Brightspace Fundamentals, LTI Integration) Demonstrated experience in LMS administration, including configuration, integration, and application of best practices within a higher education setting Experience working effectively in fast-paced, evolving environments with shifting priorities KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of LMS automation, third-party tool integration, and user role management Demonstrated knowledge of integrating eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate and Adobe Captivate into the Brightspace LMS environment Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to apply diverse approaches across a variety of technical and operational scenarios Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, coordination, and execution of LMS-related initiatives Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, at an intermediate to advanced level Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and technical teams Ability to develop user-friendly documentation, tutorials, and technical guides to support LMS users Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of LMS administration Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, and gain buy-in on key projects and initiatives Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders to enhance system effectiveness and user satisfaction Committed to supporting the learning community through responsive technology support Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of the community COMPETENCIES CRITICAL COMPETENCIES Communication Collaboration Continuous Improvement VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES Service Focus Quality of Work IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES Time Utilization Adaptability PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Information Systems, or a related field Hands-on experience with Brightspace (D2L) tools and modules, including but not limited to Brightspace Pulse, Content, Community, Insights Portal, and Learning Outcomes Successful completion of D2L Brightspace Administrator training or certification programs (e.g., Data Hub, or Advanced Administration) Familiarity with AI-powered educational tools and data systems, such as predictive analytics platforms, chatbot integrations, and intelligent content recommendation engines Working knowledge of student information system (SIS) integration, particularly with Ellucian Banner KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong knowledge of web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5, XML, and Java, particularly as they relate to LMS customization, LTI integration, and troubleshooting within Brightspace Familiarity with LTI standards, SCORM, xAPI, and integration of third-party tools and publisher content PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Special Note: Target Starting Salary Range: $60,000 to $70,000. The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
