As Medical Director of Inpatient Acquired Brain Injury Services, you will be treating inpatients within our brain injury unit inside our 137-private-bed hospital on a pastoral 400-acre campus that includes walking paths, sports facilities, and aquatics. This position will contribute significantly to programmatic growth and stellar clinical outcomes while working alongside researchers in the Milne Institute for Healthcare Innovation and training PM&R residents from our joint program with the University of Connecticut during their 12-week ABI rotation. Join a high-performing team of physiatrists within a specialty healthcare organization in Wallingford, CT (midway between NYC and Boston) which has distinguished itself as a leader in rehabilitation in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. As Medical Director of Inpatient Acquired Brain Injury Services, you will be treating inpatients within our brain injury unit inside our 137-private-bed hospital on a pastoral 400-acre campus that includes walking paths, sports facilities, and aquatics. This position will contribute significantly to programmatic growth and stellar clinical outcomes while working alongside researchers in the Milne Institute for Healthcare Innovation and training PM&R residents from our joint program with the University of Connecticut during their 12-week ABI rotation.
Gaylord is CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accredited for all inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs and has specialty accreditation for our spinal cord, stroke, and brain injury programs. Gaylord is one of two long-term acute care hospitals in the world, and the only of its kind in the U.S., with our unique level of CARF accreditation. It has also earned the Gold Seal of Approval by the Joint Commission, which demonstrates dedication to improving healthcare quality and safety. Patients highly rate hospital physicians and staff for the depth of their compassion, clinical excellence, and the quality of the outcomes they achieve as a team.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Below.
Administrative
Ensures the Acquired Brain Injury Service's adherence to hospital policies and compliance with standards of care Works with the other clinical leaders on the on-going strategic planning for the rehab division Participates in PM&R Division development and modification. Responsible for outcomes management as it relates to the Acquired Brain Injury Service, including but not limited to: program evaluation, performance improvement, patient satisfaction and risk management. Responsible for sharing information with staff and taking action as necessary. When appropriate, becomes engaged in various administrative committees and projects as determined by the CMO and the Medical Director of the Inpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Division. Participates in the preparation for regulatory and accreditation surveys (CARF, Joint Commission, DPH, CMS, etc.) as well as in the actual surveys themselves. Works with Marketing to identify criteria for new product development. Oversees the decision-making process for admission and continued stay of the persons served. Contacts referring physician to discuss cases on an as needed basis. Oversees the decision-making process for admission and continued stay of the persons served. Works with the Admissions Department and Care Management to identify admission criteria appropriate for a managed length of stay. Reviews cases with the Admissions Department as needed to clarify medical issues. Attends unit team meetings.
Assists in development, implementation and administration of clinical policies, pathways and guidelines for services offered to Inpatient Acquired Brain Injury patients.
Clinical
Fulfills all the criteria of a staff physician (see staff physician job description). Performs patient care activities on a daily basis. Ensures the adequacy of the individual treatment prescriptions for all persons served, including notations of contraindications and precautions developed with the participation of professional personnel. Orients and supervises resident physicians and mid-level providers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing treatment care plans, meeting with families (i.e., family conferences), meeting with staff (i.e., treating team conferences), and reviewing discharge plans. Cares for patients in inpatient and outpatient setting.
Education
Directs the clinical experience for residents, fellows, medical students and allied health profession students. Directs the continuing education of Acquired Brain Injury Service physicians and clinical staff. Provides staff with ongoing updates on new technology and trends in specific areas.
Research
Actively promotes and guides research related to the Acquired Brain Injury Service.
Qualifications
MD/DO Degree, completion of an approved Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program and Board-certified or Board-eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Medicine required Current Connecticut medical license and current Federal and Connecticut State controlled substance registration or eligibility required Extensive knowledge of clinical treatment and clinical management principles concerned with the rehabilitation of individuals with acquired brain injuries and ability to provide complete care to adolescent through geriatric patients necessary required
