COOK (7 HRS/DAY) - 10 Month Position

SALARY: PER CSEA CONTRACT - $18.25/HOUR 2025-26

RESPONSIBILITIES:

n

The work involves responsibility for preparing and cooking large quantities of food for consumption in a meal program. Work is performed under the general supervision of a site manager or program director and direct supervision may be exercised over an assistant or food service helper. Does related work as required. Typical work activities include:

n

• n

  Prepares and cooks broths, soup; and stews;

  n
n
• n

  Prepares and cooks meats and vegetables;

  n
n
• n

  Uses herbs, spices and other enhancers to flavor foods being prepared;

  n
n
• n

  Makes salads, sandwiches, and a variety of other foods;

  n
n
• n

  May oversee an assistant preparing ingredients;

  n
n
• n

  Actively participates and may oversee the cleaning of tools and equipment used in food preparation;

  n
n
• n

  May serve prepared food from the steam table, plan menus or purchase food.

  n
n

n

Good knowledge of the methods and procedures in preparing and cooking and baking food in large quantities; good knowledge of modern cooking and baking utensils, appliances and equipment; good knowledge of cleaning and sanitary methods, procedures and equipment; ability to plan with a view to economy and efficiency in the use of supplies, ingredients, equipment and food; ability to follow oral and written directions and recipes; dependability; resourcefulness; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

n

A.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in the preparation of food in large quantities; or

n

B.) Completion of a standard grade school and five (5) years of food service experience, one (1) year of which included experience in the preparation of food in large quantities; or

n

C.) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

n

CIVIL SERVICE EXAM NOT REQUIRED - Non-competitive assignment
