Summary The McKinney-Vento Outreach Specialist serves as a full-time advocate ensuring all homeless children and youth have access to free, appropriate public education, including preschool. This role supports the District's Homeless Liaison in the effective, daily operation of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program through family, community outreach, and awareness efforts across the district and throughout the community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The McKinney-Vento Outreach Specialist performs the following key responsibilities:

Assist in identifying homeless children, youth, and families. Build trust and positive relationships with families and community partners to promote educational engagement. Conduct home, school, shelter, and community agency visits. Communicate effectively-both orally and in writing-with District staff, families, students, and community organizations. Assist in planning and organizing the McKinney-Vento after-school assistance program. Monitor the implementation of after-school homework programs at district sites and shelters. Track attendance and academic progress of identified homeless students in Pre-K through grade 12. Identify and help eliminate barriers that hinder the academic success of homeless students. Support students and families in fostering confidence and setting high expectations for academic achievement. Maintain confidentiality of all homeless families and individuals served. Lead quarterly McKinney-Vento community meetings and organize family engagement events. Deliver professional development sessions on McKinney-Vento requirements to school and district staff. Present awareness sessions to community agencies, parents, and other stakeholders. Distribute McKinney-Vento informational materials (e.g., brochures, posters) across the district and community. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Support the Homeless Liaison with daily operations and tasks. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Human Development, Community Engagement, Child and Youth Studies, or a related field. At least three (3) years of experience in social work, community relations, or youth intervention. Experience in parent, family, and community engagement. Valid Driver's License required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to identify and address barriers to education for homeless youth and connect families with appropriate community resources. Strong knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity to diverse populations. Conflict resolution and mediation skills related to school-family concerns. Experience with securing external program funding through community partnerships. Ability to collaborate with curriculum teams to support academic programming. Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and related software. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable leading presentations and facilitating meetings. Flexible and self-motivated, able to adapt quickly to changes in workflow or environment. Familiarity with district and regional school locations. Basic financial record-keeping skills. Physical Requirements

Regularly required to sit; occasional walking, standing, lifting/carrying (up to 50 lbs.), pushing/pulling, balancing, reaching, and repetitive motion. Work Environment

Requires local travel and occasional work during evenings, weekends, and holiday periods. Potential exposure to emotionally charged situations involving families experiencing homelessness.
