Maintenance
Primary Purpose Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance and the Business Manager, performs maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment and furnishings in functional condition; and provides cleaning assistance to the buildings as necessary. Performs related duties and maintenance work as required.
Qualifications Profile
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent TB Skin Test/Physical completed and on file Ability to pass a background check Valid driver's license or state issued ID Previous experience in building maintenance is preferred. Specific skill certification (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) is preferred
Essential Job Functions
Performs maintenance/repairs and monitoring of buildings in all areas, including: Plumbing (restrooms and fountains) HVAC, both in the classrooms and on the rooftops Electrical repairs Plaster and sheetrock walls Carpeting repair/replacement Various equipment located in the school such as food service motors Utilizes district mowers and weed eaters to maintain campus grounds of all buildings. Sprays and uses necessary approved chemicals in all areas of the job including lawn fertilizers, cleaning solvents, grease, oil, etc. Checks and secures building at beginning and end of shift for the purpose of ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the building. Cleans rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas of building according to school district standards. Sweeps, mops, buffs, strips, and waxes floors. Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds. Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills. Removes graffiti, cleans glass areas. Replaces light bulbs. Sets up and breaks down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and functional rooms. Clears snow from entrances and walks, and spreads sand and ice melting chemicals. Performs grounds-keeping duties, clears debris and maintains grounds. Receives deliveries and assists in unloading trucks and storing supplies. Delivers supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas of the building. Empties wastebaskets; picks up and removes trash and assists in recycling program. Other maintenance/cleaning assignments not listed here.
Additional Duties
Performs general cleaning, and repair work, particularly during school vacations. Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs. Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor . Carry district cell phone. Answer calls and respond to text and emails
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others. Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written formats, with the crew regarding projects and schedules. Ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure. Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts. Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
Physical Requirement/Mental Demands/Environmental Conditions
Requires the ability to maintain emotional control while under stress and in stressful situations. Requires the ability to frequently stand for prolonged periods of time. Requires the ability to walk frequently. Works inside and outside school building. Work outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Ability to work in confined spaces Requires the ability to use standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment for prolonged periods of time. Requires the ability to frequently use repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and mouse use. Requires the ability to frequently kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist, or reach. Requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items 50 lbs. Requires the ability to climbing step and access ladders to various parts of the buildings including roofs Requires the ability to work and concentrate in noisy and crowded environments. Requires the ability to work with frequent interruptions. Requires the ability to occasionally work outside with exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc. Requires timeliness and regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
Equipment Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.
Safety Requirements
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties. Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks. Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow SDS sheets.
Travel Requirements Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office, may be required. Infrequent off-campus travel for training may be required.
