Job Summary:

A WWW GIS Analyst uses GIS technologies and practices to develop, coordinate and convert complex geo-databases and performs complex spatial analysis or leads others in the development and analysis of complex spatial projects to support GIS initiatives in the City of Baltimore. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

The incumbent in this class receives general supervision from a technical superior. The employee in this class works a conventional workweek that includes being on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week due to emergency situations. Work is performed in an office setting where normal working conditions are encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion in lifting and moving large boxes of paper and documents.

Minimum Qualifications:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education:

Have a Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university with Geographic Information Systems coursework.

AND

Experience:

Have one (1) year of experience working with and developing systems utilizing GIS platforms such as ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop or Server software suites; or performing GIS modeling and spatial analysis.

OR

Equivalency Notes:

Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems concepts, procedures and applications. Knowledge of GIS spatial application development techniques. Knowledge of functional and technical requirements for GIS hardware and software. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, Word and File Transfer Protocol computer software programs. Ability to analyze user needs, processes and procedures for GIS applications. Skill in cartographic map design, accuracy of presentation with required map components and elements, layout and design. Skill in manipulating spatial data, software commands, data editing, accuracy determination, digitizing, scanning, plotting, data acquisition and general computer operation. Ability to coordinate the operations and activities of a complex governmental GIS program. Ability to assemble GIS reports and related documents. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to train others.

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-months.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Selection Process

Examination Process
