POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Quality Inspector (QI) is responsible for ensuring that all transformer components and final assemblies meet internal quality standards and customer specifications. This includes inspecting materials, monitoring production processes, and performing final quality checks before shipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Inspecting incoming materials, in-process components, and finished transformers for compliance with customer specifications and company standards.

• Reviewing the in-process control QC sheets to verify that they have been complete and records have been retained

• Reviewing the NCR log to verify the status of any non-conformances and associated actions have been complete.

• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.

• Perform electrical and mechanical inspections, including dimensional checks, torque verification, and insulation resistance testing.

• Documenting inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.

• Identifying non-conformances and work with production and engineering teams to resolve issues.

• Ensuring compliance with ISO standards, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures.

• Participating in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Calibrating and maintaining inspection tools and equipment.

Internal Relationships

Production/Manufacturing Teams

• Collaborate to identify and resolve quality issues on the production line.

• Provide feedback on defects or process deviations.

• Share inspection results and collaborate on root cause analysis.

• Align on quality standards, documentation, and corrective actions.

Engineering and Design Teams

• Communicate about product specifications and tolerances.

• Report recurring issues that may require design changes.

Supply Chain and Procurement

• Inspect incoming materials and components.

• Report supplier-related quality issues and support vendor evaluations.

Sales & Project Management

• Ensure customer requirements are fulfilled and participate in customer inspection

Maintenance & Test Teams

• Ensure inspection tools and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.

7.

Supervisors and Management

• Participate in audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

External Relationships

Suppliers and Vendors

• Conduct audits or inspections of supplier facilities.

• Provide feedback on non-conforming materials or components.

Customers

• Address customer complaints or returned goods.

• Support customer audits or quality assurance visits.

3.

Regulatory Bodies and Auditors

• Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, IEEE ).

• Provide documentation and support during inspections or audits.

PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS



Lifting : Frequently lift and carry equipment or components weighing up to 60 lbs



Standing/Walking : Stand or walk for extended periods, often on concrete floors in a manufacturing or testing environment.



Bending/Crouching : Regularly bend, kneel, or crouch to access test points or connect equipment.



Manual Dexterity : Use hand tools and testing instruments with precision.



Visual Acuity : Read instruments, schematics, small print on labels or components and differentiate colors



Hearing : Detect alarms, equipment sounds, or verbal instructions in noisy environments.



Environmental Conditions : Work in areas that may be hot, cold, dusty, or noisy.



Working Height : Use of ladders and mobile elevated work platforms



PPE : Use of PPE as required (safety glasses, gloves, etc.)

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Experience in transformer manufacturing or electrical equipment inspection.

• Strong understanding of quality control principles and inspection techniques.

• Ability to use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, multimeters, etc.).

• Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics,

• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards.

• High attention to detail and strong documentation skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred

• Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) beneficial but not essential.

• ISO 9001 internal auditor certification preferred but no essential
