Maintains public trees in City parks and easements. Responds to emergency situations caused by tree failure that impact City access and infrastructure. Duties

Oversees and participates in the following forestry practices in the City parks and public spaces: ANSI A300 Tree Care Standards for pruning, tree planting, tree removal Stump grinding Safety and compliance Equipment operation Training and supervision Emergency response due to tree failure caused by weather or accidents Tree health care and maintenance such as watering, aerating, fertilizing, air-spading, mulching, and staking Maintains and repairs a variety of equipment used in the planting, trimming, and removal of trees Ensures the availability of adequate supplies and equipment on trucks to complete assigned work Cleans worksite and performs ground level clean-up to clear tree debris Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written with employees and citizens who may ask for information Proper care and storage of equipment Respond with urgency to public safety concerns Documents and reports of changes in tree health and safety Uses aerial lift to trim trees, cleans debris from work site by removing or chipping cut limbs, and loads debris onto city vehicle for removal Inspects tree for decay, disease, and insects Operates equipment for insect and disease management on trees and shrubs General landscape maintenance Setup, takedown, and staff City sponsored special events Equipment: Chainsaws Aerial lift / Bucket Truck Hand tools and gas-powered equipment such as leaf blowers, stump grinders, and chippers Use of hand shovel to make any drainage changes or correction to tree site Use of ropes Prune and groom small trees using hand saws and clipper Dump truck, tractor, chipper truck, claw track Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent required Valid CDL Class B Driver's License required 5 years of experience maintaining plant materials and working in parks maintenance Able to operate various types of tree operations equipment (Bucket Truck, Chipper Truck, Dump Truck and Chain Saws, tractor) Must have at least 3 years of experience in removing trees, planting trees, pruning trees, and general tree care and response to tree failures of all types Experience with tree work in residential areas, dealing with traffic and pedestrians Ability to read and understand work orders, pesticide instructions and equipment manuals and maintain records and prepare written reports Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and complete tasks according to safety guidelines Preferred: Licensed by the Texas Department of Agriculture in pesticide operations preferred Extensive background in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Maintenance, and/or Horticulture Supplemental Information

Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employee will work in extreme temperatures bending, lifting and moving pieces of equipment and plant materials in order to complete work. Employee will be exposed to chemicals while maintaining plant materials
