The Schwrer Lab is interested in understanding the role of the tumor microenvironment in cancer, focusing on cancer-associated fibroblasts. The laboratory combines mouse models and novel culture systems with metabolic flux analysis to investigate how nutrient availability and utilization dictates fibroblast identity and function, and how this contributes to cancer progression. Responsibilities include: Work on a research project with guidance from the principal investigator and other laboratory members. Design and execute daily laboratory experiments, including mammalian cell culture, 3D organoid culture, molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning), Western Blot, RNA isolation and qRT-PCR, and sample preparation for metabolomic analysis. Note keeping and recording experimental data. Work with mouse models, including breeding of mice, weaning pups, genotyping. Assist in management of mouse colony. Order, receive, label and safely store lab supplies. Maintain and renew inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
