Contracts Technician
Suffolk County Government is seeking a Contracts Technician for the Department of Audit and Control. Under supervision, an employee in this class reviews, maintains and modifies contractual and compliance records and related materials. The work differs from that of a Budget Technician in that the incumbent's primary responsibility is concerned with administering the various contracts derived from the budget process in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Work is performed in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. Supervision may be exercised over a small clerical staff, and is received from an administrative supervisor. Does related work as required. Key elements of the role include: Reviews and administers contracts in accordance with federal, state and local rules and regulations; Makes suggestions concerning the revision of language in contracts; Reviews claims for payment and for conformance to contracts; Ascertains whether claims are charged to the proper accounts in regard to related contracts; Maintains files for contract records and reports; Monitors contracts to insure that all provisions in them are complied with. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma Three (3) years of experience in maintaining financial records, accounts, or journals, budgeting, or contract and/or claims processing One (1) year of which must have involved contracts review, preparation, interpretation or administration. This Role Is A Provisional Appointment A provisional appointment, which occurs only in the competitive class, is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the position. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates.
