Mid-Level Marine Mechanical Engineer
Leidos Gibbs & Cox is the largest independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm in the United States. Since our founding in 1929, 24 classes of combatants and nearly 7,000 vessels have been built to Gibbs & Cox designs. We proudly support military and commercial clients in the U.S. and internationally with all phases of marine design, construction, and lifecycle management. Our passion is solving our customers' 21st century maritime challenges with quality and integrity. We currently have an opening for a Mid-Level Marine Mechanical Engineer to support the USCG Surface Force Logistics Center (SFLC). The mission of SFLC is to provide complete lifecycle management of USCG floating assets from concept design through disposal. This position provides you the opportunity to contribute to the design and support of new and existing USCG acquisitions, including small boats, cutters, and icebreakers, directly alongside Coast Guard personnel. This position focuses on the development and review of Auxiliary mechanical system designs for USCG assets. This position requires 5 days per week of onsite support at SFLC in Glen Burnie, MD. Primary Responsibilities Provide marine engineering support for shipboard Auxiliary systems including distributive piping, engine support, HVAC, and cargo and weight handling systems. Design and evaluate new or modified auxiliary subsystems as it pertains to overall system performance and system integration Provide engineering and technical support for review of shipyard engineering documentation packages. Perform trade-off and engineering analyses to support equipment modernizations, mid-life retrofits, repairs, and other sustainment tasks. Perform calculations applying mechanical engineering system design principles, techniques, procedures and criteria. Interface directly with USCG and shipyard personnel. Basic Qualifications U.S. Citizenship and must have an active secret clearance or be eligible to be granted one. BS or MS in Technical, Engineering, or Marine degree from ABET-accredited institution, related to field of work. Minimum of 3 years' documented experience relating to the design of marine mechanical systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Active Secret Security clearance. Familiarity with USCG, ABS, and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations. Proficiency in AutoCAD or other CAD software. Come break things (in a good way). Then build them smarter. We're the tech company everyone calls when things get weird. We don't wear capes (they're a safety hazard), but we do solve high-stakes problems with code, caffeine, and a healthy disregard for "how it's always been done."
