Perform a variety of activities in support of the operation of a wastewater treatment plant including collecting test samples, collecting blanket reading, monitoring plant operations, and maintenance tasks. Must be completely familiar with the duties of all the Operator I positions. Typical Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Collect samples for various tests of plant processes, maintain sample stations. 2.2 Collect blanket readings. 2.3 Monitor plant operations by comparisons of data from pH and D.O test. 2.4 Maintain records of plant operations by recording data from tests and instruments. 2.5 Perform minor maintenance activities 2.6 Communicate with lab personnel, maintenance personnel, vendors, and other plant operators. 2.7 May perform the duties. 2.8 Must be able to develop the ability to perform Operator II duties. 2.9 Prepare samples for transfer to central lab and commercial lab. 2.10 Develop and review sampling SOP's. 2.11 Review and evaluate performance of subordinate personnel. 2.12 Monitor operations of wastewater treatment plant including inspection of equipment, trouble shooting of problems, calculating flows, removal formulas, and other plant conditions, and effluent quality. 2.13 Participate with shift operators in the tasks associated with plant operations as necessary. 2.14 Maintain safe working environment in plant. 2.15 Analyze instrument readings and laboratory test results to evaluate plant operations. 2.16 Communicate with maintenance personnel, lab techs, operators, and customers concerning plant operations. 2.17 Create and review SOP's. 2.18 Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
3.1 Knowledge of the wastewater treatment process including the operation of pumps and motors, piping, and electrical equipment. 3.2 Knowledge of the operation of the sludge dewatering unit and the application of polymer. 3.3 Knowledge of the principles and practices for the safe operation of a wastewater treatment plant. 3.4 Ability to read memoranda, daily work schedules, log sheets, technical manuals, and procedures. 3.5 Ability to perform mathematical calculations necessary to compute plant flows and sample test results. 3.6 Ability to write memoranda, log sheets, work orders, and other reports. 3.7 Ability to operate equipment such as hoist, forklift, club cart and yard mule 3.8 Ability to operate test equipment such as blanket indicator, ammonia meter, and hand-held ph meter. 3.9 Ability to operate assigned vehicle. 3.10 Ability to use hand tools and air wrenches. 3.11 Ability to communicate orally both in person and by telephone and radio. Environmental Conditions
4.1 Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in extreme heat (100F) and cold (32F) in all weather conditions. 4.2 Work involves exposure to potential noise, mechanical, electrical fume/odor, chemical, and toxic waste hazards with proper precautionary procedures. Education, Certification, and Experience Required
5.1 High school diploma or equivalent. 5.2 Experience in wastewater treatment plant operations is desired 5.3 Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's license. 5.4 It is preferred the operator I obtain a class "D" certification while continuing education in the wastewater field to obtain a class "C" certification. Physical Requirements
6.1 Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch/stoop, squat, twist upper body, and climb ladders while performing various job functions such as inspecting plant, taking samples, and adjusting valves. 6.2 Ability to grasp with hands and manipulate tools, pumps, and heavy barrels. 6.3 Ability to grasp with hands and manipulate glass sample bottles. 7.1 Odessa South Facility 7.2 Knowledge of standard testing procedures for taking samples, running analysis of TOC, ammonia, D.O. and TSS. 7.3 Knowledge of WinLIMS, FMS, and Wonderware HMI interface programs. 7.4 Ability to operate equipment such as hoist, forklift, club cart and yard mule. Summary
