COPE & SPELL Program Manager (Academic Student Support Manager)
Founded in 1870 as New York City's first teacher-preparation school, the Hunter College School of Education is both steeped in history and focused on the future. Our School of Education is committed to developing reflective, knowledgeable, and highly effective educators, administrators, and counselors. The Saturday English as a Second Language (ESL) programs serve members of the community in English language instruction. The Saturday Program in English Language Literacy (SPELL) is open to parents of children under 18 years old and/or children over 18 and in college. The Community Outreach Program in English (COPE) is open to any adult. Reporting to the chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, the Program Manager for COPE and SPELL oversees the daily operations of the program as well as the Saturday courses themselves. The Program Manager is responsible for the coordination and implementation of administrative functions in consultation with the Principal Investigator/Faculty Advisor, while providing basic program information, registration instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, Community Based Organizations and nonprofits, and others who contact the program. The Program will perform the following duties: Oversee administrative functions within the program such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments etc., and provide administrative support to case managers, teachers, tutors, and office staff, under the oversight and supervision of the PI/faculty advisor Help identify best office practices for the TESOL Program, and work alongside the chair in identifying and implementing strategies for better efficiency and student success within the program Oversee and coordinate logistics for classroom, testing, registration and orientation spaces In collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI)/Faculty Advisor, create and maintain the program's fiscal plans Create and maintain course management system with all pertinent course and online learning materials Assist with recruitment of new staff (social works, teachers, tutors, office assistance, data support staff) in coordination with the PI/faculty advisor and complete all onboarding procedures Manage accurate student records for New York State Education requirements Oversee entry of all student data and test scores into ASISTS (NYSED database management system) Ensure the update of students' learning portfolios, progress reports, and attendance records ensuring all records remain in compliance with NYSED requirements In consultation with the PI/ Faculty Advisor, complete and submit all required NYSED reports Provide training and assist with professional and curriculum development in TESOL program, in consultation with PI/faculty advisor Implement peer observation structure for course instructors; conduct formal observations in compliance with funders' and NYSED requirements Maintain an evaluation system for teacher effectiveness which includes insights from students, and other observers in the classroom such as tutors from the MA program Lead professional development to instructors who teach in COPE/SPELL Program Conduct professional development for teachers in the COPE/SPELL program with the goal to have them prepared on Educational Technology Assist in the development of performance improvement plans for staff members to ensure ongoing development and advancement of all program staff Develop and coordinate educational events for program students and program stakeholders (e.g., career fairs, in-person and online academic language support) Represent the TESOL program at meetings including but not limited to: Literacy Program Manager, CUNY Central office, NYC RAEN (Regional Adult Education Network), and in Albany at New York State Education (NYSED) conferences Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required. Campus-specific qualifications: Master's degree in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a related field Four years' professional experience teaching adult English language learners in a continuing education or community-based environment, including supporting intake, assessment, and retention Experience managing ESL programs and supervising ESL instructors and tutors Experience overseeing program data needs including entry, tracking, and reporting and using systems such as ASISTS and Xendirect Ability to work in a diverse environment and exhibit socio-cultural competence and understanding Strong organizational and project management skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent technology skills including with data entry and reporting Bilingual skills preferred CUNY Title Overview

Develops, recommends, and implements program goals and objectives to meet students' specialized needs; coordinates delivery of services across multiple functions, developing new programs and activities as needed. Advocates for students, and partners with academic and student support functions to ensure students effectively utilize programs and services; collaborates with counselors, mentors, and others assisting students. Maintains ongoing communications with targeted student population as well as department management, advisory groups, and external organizations. $71,912 - $84,011, salary commensurate with education and experience.
