The Florida Department of Education works hand in hand with parents, teachers, educators, and community members to improve Florida's education system for students of all backgrounds and abilities. The FDOE's mission for Florida's Early Learning-20 education system is to increase the proficiency of all students within one seamless, efficient system, by allowing them the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills through learning opportunities and research valued by students, parents, and communities. Serving approximately 3 million students, 4,400 public schools, 28 colleges, 200,000 instructional staff, 46,000 college professors and administrators, and 340,000 full-time staff throughout the state, FDOE enhances programs and services for Florida's students from early learning through college and career development. In addition, FDOE manages programs that assist individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or disabled succeed either in school settings or careers - encouraging independence and self-sufficiency. Office of the General Counsel- Vocational Rehabilitation Section Duties and Responsibilities include: Assisting attorneys in preparing letters, memorandums and legal opinions, complaints, motions, answers, notices, trial notebooks, briefs, and other legal documents. Checking all citations and proofreading all quotations for accuracy and proper form in accordance with the Uniform System of Citation. Copying complaints, motions, answers, notices, memoranda of law, briefs, trial exhibits and other legal documents for distribution to the courts and other attorneys involved in litigation matters. Maintaining a chronological correspondence log containing records of the response and handling of all assignments given to attorneys assigned to you. Maintain files on all correspondence and specialized matters handled by these attorneys. Maintaining litigation log and case files, including the indexing and logging of all pleadings and legal documents filed and received by the attorneys. Assisting in answering and routing incoming calls and correctly transmitting telephone numbers and messages when attorneys are unavailable to answer the call- assist callers in answering questions that do not need legal advice or directing calls to other offices within the Department that can better answer their questions. Making necessary travel arrangements including lodging, airline reservations, car rental arrangements, etc. Maintaining an accurate record of travel arrangements and original receipts for proper filing according to Department of Education procedures for travel vouchers and other required forms for travel reimbursement. Maintaining a daily appointment calendar and making notations to scheduled meetings which should include the time, place, and personnel involved in the meeting, conference, hearing, or deposition. Calendars are to include court and pleading deadlines, leave requests, appointments, and meetings. Assisting with the Archiving in the Office of the General Counsel. Performing other miscellaneous assignments as directed by the General Counsel and staff attorneys. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records. Ability to understand and apply Florida Statutes and FDOE rules and policies. Ability to solve problems. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to produce accurate and timely information under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities, and maintain goal-oriented behavior and performance expectations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Minimum Qualifications include: Attendance at work is an essential job function. The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions. The employee must interact courteously with others and be responsive to the needs of other units in the Department. The employee's performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and moral of the unit. Salary is based on the State of Florida minimum pay grade for the position. Consideration may be given to an applicant's experience, skills, and available agency funds. *This position is not approved for telework and must report to the location listed above.
