PSD Administration Position Overview: This leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of ambulatory care delivery across UPMC. As a key member of the Access team, the Senior Director will drive enterprise-wide efforts to enhance the patient experience, collaborating across clinical operations, hospital systems, IT, Marketing, and Digital Services. Purpose: The Senior Director of Ambulatory Clinical Operations has the overall responsibility for elevation of nursing practice, planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, ambulatory staffing models, patient safety, clinical quality outcomes, evidence-based practices, professional development of staff and clinical research throughout the Ambulatory Services footprint at UPMC. The Senior Director is a nurse leader within the physician services leadership team, collaborating with nursing leadership, senior administration, and physician executives across HSD. The leader will collaborate and develop professional relationships with other departments to integrate strategic program planning and operations for care delivery. The role involves advancing strategic planning, goal setting, program development, and establishing outcomes and metrics for service lines. Additionally, develop and lead a standard nursing triage model across UPMC regions and demonstrate exceptional skills in using ambulatory electronic medical records. Responsibilities: Sets the vision for the nursing care of patients within the ambulatory setting, develop standards, best practices, and implement approaches to advance the health of those served. Develop standard workflows and staffing models for nursing, technicians, and medical assistants in the ambulatory setting. Partner with the Center for Nursing Excellence to ensure strong ambulatory care workforce professional development. Drives a culture of safety and fosters a healthy work environment where ambulatory care teams thrive together with the leadership team. Fosters professional governance, leadership and decision making at the clinical nurse, technician, and medical assistant level. Assures compliance with policy and practice guidelines across the ambulatory setting. Provides visible and effective leadership in the development of care programs, outcomes management, patient safety, clinical outcomes, patient access and throughput, functional outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial outcomes. Co-leads the UPMC Ambulatory Nursing Council. Supports nursing practice development, research, and engagement within the ambulatory nursing council. Partners with school of medicine physician leaders and affiliated medical group practice leaders Serves as the nursing leader within the ambulatory service line. Collaborate with the departments of Quality and Risk Management to identify risks and develop action plans. Collaborates with administrative and clinical colleagues in strategic planning and the development and evaluation of business plans, clinical programs, and services. Partners with the Center for Nursing Excellence to expand community and academic partnerships such as colleges of nursing and other allied health professional training programs, local nursing professional organizations, community/public health organizations. Ensures the department's compliance with regulations and participates in ambulatory regulatory agency reviews. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration by partnering with other hospital departments for efficient, high quality, safe patient care. Fosters a culture of transformational leadership and accountability that supports continued improvement and innovation. Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field required. 7 years of progressive leadership experience required; system-level experience is preferred.
