Nurse Educator Surgical Services

The Nurse Educator for Surgical Services is a registered nurse responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for staff in the surgical department. This includes orientation, competency assessment, professional development, and continuing education initiatives. The Nurse Educator serves as a clinical expert, mentor, and resource to ensure high-quality patient care and staff performance in the perioperative environment. Key responsibilities include: Education & Training: Develop and implement orientation programs for new surgical services staff.

Plan and deliver ongoing clinical education and training aligned with evidence-based practices and regulatory requirements.

Provide individualized coaching, mentoring, and remediation as needed.

Competency Management: Coordinate and assess clinical competencies for nursing and support staff.

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards.

Quality Improvement: Collaborate with leadership to identify learning needs based on quality and safety data, audits, and performance outcomes.

Lead or participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Qualifications: Education/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred

Minimum 35 years of recent experience in a medical-surgical setting

Prior teaching, precepting, or education-related experience strongly preferred

Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in AZ or Compact

American Heart Association BLS

Skills: Strong clinical expertise in adult med-surg nursing

Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

Proficiency with learning management systems and Microsoft Office

Ability to design and evaluate education programs and learning outcomes
