Position Summary The Sr. Landman, Permian position at Black Stone plays a key role in managing both internal and project-based assignments, leveraging a deep understanding of oil and gas industry regulations, strong communication and negotiation skills, and exceptional organization abilities. This position demands adaptability to the unique challenges of each basin and the capacity to work independently, proactively and collaboratively. Reporting to the Manager, Land, the role offers the opportunity to oversee a diverse portfolio of oil & gas assets while partnering with multiple departments to achieve a variety of goals.

In This Role, You Will Proactively develop an understanding of BSM’s complex acquisition background and current joint development agreements/areas. Function as a liaison between Black Stone and exploration and production customers with respect to lease and other agreements and transactions. Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and business contacts to promote development of Black Stone minerals and optimization of working interest optionality in assigned regional area (including industry conferences and networking events with business contacts). Assist in the preparation, management, and review of complex oil and gas agreements and curative. Act as a primary point of contact for obtaining clear “line of sight” on complex legal questions related to land titles, contracts, and regulatory compliance. Contribute to the revision and improvement of internal lease and contract templates and forms, ensuring they reflect current legal standards and best practices. Identify new organic growth opportunities and work with landmen and technical teams to evaluate and pursue each opportunity within assigned regional area. Initiate review of and respond to incoming well notices and AFEs in assigned regional area, working in conjunction with AFE Administrator in accordance with Black Stone AFE handling procedures. Research and analyze land related documents and contracts with respect to drilling, production, and operations information, such as depths held by production, continuous development obligations and critical activity dates. Work diligently with E&P companies in identifying opportunities for accelerated development projects. Review and verify Land Technician recommendations on monthly Expiration, Obligation, and Payment Report, and provide management with additional information and any missing recommendations. Work closely with the engineering, geology, and land administration departments in the evaluation and marketing of prospect ideas. Collaborate with GIS and IT departments to generate maps in monitoring project status and reporting to management. Support Manager, Land on annual budget and identifying and working special projects as needed. What We Require J.D. Degree, preferred At least 7 years of progressively more responsible landman experience in the Permian Basin. CPL Certification and knowledge of field land work, preferred. Experience in Quorum software, preferred. Experience with ArcGIS software, preferred. Solid understanding of US Mineral and surface ownership principles including regulatory, title and curative documents. System savvy and ability to work with different applications and databases. Ability to plan and organize workload, adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure with minimum supervision. Solid interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build relationships in a small team environment as well as with external parties. Bring a positive team player attitude that is dependable and committed to the objectives given.
