Cat Café Manager
for our client, a well-established and growing animal organization that helps the needs of thousands of animals across Southeastern Michigan. This full-time, onsite opportunity is available immediately!
POSITION SUMMARY: The Cat Café Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a vibrant off-site adoption center and retail space that connects the community with adoptable cats in a welcoming, mission-driven environment. This unique position sits at the intersection of animal welfare, customer experience, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate is a compassionate and energetic self-starter who brings strong customer service instincts, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. You'll work closely with teams including Development, Marketing, Adoptions, Behavior, Education, and Volunteer Services to ensure a seamless and impactful experience for visitors and feline residents alike.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead daily operations of a cat adoption and retail center, ensuring exceptional animal care, a clean environment, and high customer satisfaction. Monitor feline health and wellbeing through daily checks, feeding adjustments, and stress-reduction techniques; coordinate veterinary care when needed. Supervise staff and volunteers, providing training, mentorship, and support to maintain morale and prevent burnout. Manage adoption processes, including guiding visitors, approving applications, and facilitating smooth transitions for cats and adopters. Deliver outstanding customer service, creating a welcoming, informative, and engaging experience for individuals and families. Plan and support educational events, community programs, and inclusive activities for diverse populations in partnership with external organizations. Collaborate on fundraising and donor engagement efforts, including events and campaigns that support budgetary needs and mission alignment. Cultivate local business relationships to secure sponsorships and in-kind donations to enhance programs and operations. Oversee marketing and communications strategies to drive awareness, engagement, and attendance, including social media and branding efforts. Manage facility needs, store inventory, and supply orders to ensure smooth operations and an appealing, well-stocked retail space. Support financial sustainability by contributing to budgeting, tracking expenses, and making informed adjustments to meet goals. Hire, onboard, and evaluate staff, handle scheduling, payroll, performance management, and disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong emotional intelligence, resilience, and a proactive mindset to navigate the dynamic environment of animal care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to inclusive, respectful collaboration across teams and communities. Solid understanding of feline behavior and health, paired with a mission-driven and adaptable leadership style. Ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency and attention to detail in a fast-paced, evolving setting. Knowledge of best practices in animal care and adoptions, with a continuous improvement mindset and community-focused approach. Comfortable working in varied conditions, including exposure to cleaning agents, allergens, weather, and the physical demands of animal care. Physically able to lift and move animals or equipment weighing 40 lbs or more; must meet basic vision, hearing, and speech requirements. Willingness to receive (or formally waive) tetanus and pre-exposure rabies vaccinations, reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals. Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support operations and events.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: In addition to a competitive salary of $50,000-$60,000 (DOE), this position offers a very strong benefits package including two weeks paid time off with carry-over, six sick days, holiday closures, majority employer-paid health, dental, and vision plans, and a strong focus on work-life balance!
