The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking to hire two (2) student assistants under the close supervision of a Staff Services Manager, I or II. The student assistants are responsible for providing direct support in the operations of the Office of Business Services (OBS). The student assistants will operate congruently with organizational culture, values, and vision to support and promote a positive work environment and productive relationship with all CDCR staff and stakeholders ethically and professionally.

Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.

UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California.

Prerequisites

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).

Salary

$16.50 - $21.86 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

Familiar with general office procedures and possess exceptional customer service skills in a professional office setting. Must be familiar with Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Software. Must have good attendance, be punctual and professional. Must be able to work both independently and in team situations. Must have the ability to maintain accurate records, pay strict attention to detail, and communicate effectively with the public as well as all levels of staff and management. Must be reliable and have good written and verbal communication skills. Must pass a criminal background check; LiveScan Fingerprinting. Tuberculosis clearance is required. Preferred Qualifications

Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Experience in an administrative or operations support role. Duties and Responsibilities

Provide support to staff to assist with the development of special projects, including but not limited to newsletters, e-blasts, posters, etc. Ability to utilize the Internet to conduct "online" research and obtain information related to projects or assignments. Collect, assemble, analyze, and summarize research related to regulations and policies. Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams). Assist with special projects. Act as backup support staff to the OBS; Compile, enter or tabulate spreadsheet entries. Assist with preparing various reports, updating charts, and forms, and gathering information from individuals regarding work-related tasks. Maintain an electronic file system on a shared drive; address form letters and packages for mailing; provide coverage in OBS, as necessary. Respond to customer service requests via email and phone; provide the highest quality of customer service to internal and external customers. Distribute, sort, and file forms. Type correspondence, memorandums, and reports. Assist in reviewing and proofreading documents for accuracy, punctuation, grammar, spelling, and formatting. Assist with creating Excel spreadsheets, and Word documents, such as project status reports, memorandums, and work plans. Provide support to office staff as needed. Perform other job-related duties as required (or assigned) in accordance with the classification.

Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
