The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is seeking an Office Assistant 2 to join the Division of Food Safety and Inspection in Albany. The Office Assistant 2 will be responsible for, but not limited to: Verifying correct commercial feed and 5A slaughter fees have been submitted and ensuring precise reconciliation of payments Matching inspector feed samples with analyses and review products to ascertain whether they are registered Distributing warning letters to inspectors and the industry to inform them of products that fail to meet their label claims Inputting product name data to guarantee analysis information Establishing file system maintenance and ensuring proper labeling and filing history information Answering unit information inquiries and industry communication Providing support to the Food Safety Licensing unit The Office Assistant 2 is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday. The position will be based in our Albany office located at 10B Airline Dr., Albany, NY 12235. Opportunities for telecommuting may be available in accordance with the agency's Telecommuting Program Guidelines. NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications: One year of clerical experience. Alternate Minimum Qualifications: You may be eligible for appointment to this position if you meet any of the following minimum qualifications: One year of permanent, competitive service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher Employees who were previous permanent New York State employees who resigned their positions may be reinstated to their former positions, or to positions to which they were eligible for transfer or reassignment without further examination The starting salary for the Office Assistant 2 is $42,641/year, and the hiring salary for the CSEA salary grade (SG) 9. The candidate appointed to the Office Assistant 2, SG-9, will be eligible to participate in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program. Through this program, employees receive yearly performance evaluations. Performance advances are payable to CSEA employees whose base annual salary is below the job rate for their current position and who were rated "Satisfactory" or its equivalent on their yearly performance evaluation. Performance advance payments are added to an employee's annual salary. Over time, yearly performance advances may lead to the SG-9 job rate salary of $52,413/year! This is a CSEA-represented position that offers excellent benefits! Benefits include but are not limited to inexpensive Health Insurance options, free dental and vision coverage, NYS Pension Plan membership, and generous paid time off. Within the first year, you are eligible for 5 days of personal time, 13 vacation days, 13 sick days, and 13 paid holidays! As a New York State employee, you could potentially qualify to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF)! The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your direct student loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan and while working full-time for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets or another eligible employer.
