Reporting to Hayward Pool Products Engineering Manager, the CAD Designer has responsibility for the generation of all 2D and 3D CAD files that represent the products, systems, subsystems or components under development. The CAD Designer will be responsible for the fit-up of products, systems and subsystems at the assembly level, as well as, developing and maintaining all engineering documentation relating to the bills of materials within the PLM and ERP systems. In a cross-functional team environment, they will collaborate with other CAD designers, product design engineers, technicians, project managers, product managers, manufacturing engineers, and external resources to manage concurrent responsibilities for multiple in-process projects.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the Product Engineer and cross-functional team to develop product designs that satisfy the customer’s needs and represents the best balance of cost, manufacturability, form, fit, function, appearance and quality
Ensure implementation of new products and changes to existing products are consistent with new product development plans, Bill of Materials (BOM), Engineering Change Requests(ECR), First Article Inspections(FAI), and Cost Reduction / Standardization plans
Lead all Bill of Material activity by working with product development engineers, Engineering Services, and Manufacturing Engineering during the development and revision of product components, sub-assemblies and Finished Goods
Communicate concerns / suggestions / improvements relating to engineering documentation and product life cycle management to Engineering Services Lead for implementation
Provide technical support for the resolution of issues associated with PLM, ERP, Item Master and BOM’s for components, systems, subsystems or products
With the assistance of manufacturing engineering, dimension and tolerance component features assuring that selected tolerances are within manufacturing capability
Incorporate GD&T on drawings, perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure accuracy and manufacturability
Checks engineering drawings and assemblies using accepted engineering / drafting practices and standards
Constructs and or develops product, system, subsystem or component data files in file formats that would be compatible with other CAD systems and systems that take advantage of techniques such as Rapid Prototyping
Assists with the training and mentoring of less experienced CAD designers
Prepare / build prototype parts, assemblies and test fixtures. Collect and analyze test data.
Qualifications
Military / technical training or equivalent work experience with minimum 5 years’ experience; AAS or BS Engineering degree a plus
5 to 7 years 2D / 3D CAD experience, emphasizing 3D solid modeling. SolidWorks experience required, NX a plus
Working knowledge of PLM, and ERP systems. Siemens Teamcenter a plus.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design, and ensure manufacturability of plastic injection-molded components for high volume manufacturing
Working knowledge of design tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) a plus
Working knowledge of statistics, std deviation, mean, control limits, etc.
Working knowledge of mechanical devices and systems
Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, disciplines and tolerances
Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques
Strong interpersonal, communications and analytical skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work around machines with moving mechanical parts. The employee may be occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the R&D lab environment can be moderate to loud. Safety glasses are required while on the plant floor or in R&D Lab. Steel toe safety shoes may be required in certain areas.
