AI Research/Machine Learning Engineer - Agent Products San Francisco Bay Area

Responsibilities Design a production and training system that enables an autonomous LLM-powered agent to utilize various tools across web browsing, retrieval, and code execution to answer user prompts with high-quality, cited responses. Collaborate with the Core Research & Post-Training Team to improve model expansion, reformulation, querying, and summarization against Perplexity’s retrieval index. Enhance the speed and quality of our codebase and engineering processes to ensure a consistently excellent product experience. Work with Perplexity GTM leaders and diverse stakeholders (e.g., Motorola, TripAdvisor) to develop integrated product solutions across research verticals like Travel and Retail. Qualifications Proven research experience with large-scale LLMs and Deep Learning systems. Strong Post-Training skills, familiar with supervised and reinforcement learning, reward formulation, and evaluation techniques. Intuitive understanding of consumer products, especially Agent products, with a willingness to unblock at any level and take ownership of the end-user experience. Ability to make tradeoffs in developing end-to-end agents, including training techniques, model architecture, and prompting strategies. Minimum of 5 years

of relevant deep learning research experience. The cash compensation range for this role is $200,000 - $280,000.
