Job Description: Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Principal Signalling System Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will handle a wide range of engineering tasks, from administrative to strategic. This position is based in Oakland, California . Accountabilities: Manage and trace Overall Signaling System Requirements throughout the project lifecycle (Design and Testing). Allocate requirements to subsystems within the Signaling System. Perform Signaling System Design and ATC Gap Analysis to ensure proper functionalities and performance. Manage interfaces between Signaling Subsystem and other subsystems, including internal interfaces. Define the Physical Architecture of the Signaling system and integrate it into the overall System Architecture. Ensure product development complies with project requirements and interfaces. Deliver tasks on time, within budget, and to quality standards. Standardize signaling systems across projects, including design specifications. Develop, execute, and document system and lab test procedures, including improvements. Apply relevant standards such as CMMI, CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, IPC. Contribute to system configuration, requirements management, and data preparation for ERTMS systems. Required Skills/Knowledge: 5-10 years of engineering project delivery experience. At least 5 years as a lead systems/design engineer in signaling projects. Experience with conventional signaling control, CBTC systems, and HW/SW integration lifecycle. Experience managing small to medium projects and teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, requirements management, PLM, defect tracking, and configuration tools. Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and communicate complex ideas simply. Strong troubleshooting and systems engineering expertise, including V-lifecycle, architecture, requirements, configuration, and interface management. Deep understanding of electromechanical systems interactions. Experience in rail or transit domain. Desired Skills/Knowledge: PE certification in California in Electrical Engineering. Expertise in high-speed rail systems, power systems, EMI/EMC, telecoms, automation control, or cross-functional team collaboration across locations. Education: Bachelor's Degree Languages: English-Proficient Hitachi Rail conducts substance screening for safety-sensitive positions as per DOT's FRA and FTA programs. The salary range is $143,000-$214,000 annually, based on experience, skills, and location.
