Job Description Salary: $23.00 base rate Job Title: TECHNICIAN: UTILITY MAINTENANCE (Wastewater) Department: Wastewater-Maintenance Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor Directs Work Of: NA FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Effective Date(s): 2011; 2015; PG 1/1/2019, 11/1/2023 EEO-4 Classification: Technicians Normal Work Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Normal Work Days: Monday through Thursday

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or Equivalent and a minimum of 1 yr. Technical School in an applicable trade. Minimum of two years of experience working in a wastewater treatment plant or equivalent mechanical and electrical experience. Competent working knowledge and experience in mechanical repair & maintenance of pumps, motors, gear reducers, gates, valves, pipes and associated equipment. Knowledge and experience with electrical controls and Low to medium Voltage 3-phase systems up to 480 Volts. Knowledge and experience with hand held electrical measuring devices such as multi meters, voltage and amperage meters. Competency in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, recommending appropriate repair options and performing the repairs. Knowledge and experience with welding, soldering and hot cutting. Knowledge and experience with metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic and HVAC systems. Knowledge and experience using power hand tools & shop equipment tools such as: band saws, cut off saws, Milling Machine, sand blaster & drill presses. Must possess or obtain at least a Class B CDL within 6 months. Crane Truck experience & Crane Operator Certification is preferred. Forklift Certification is required and will be provided. Equivalent combination of education, skills, training and experience may be considered.

Position Summary Ensures that the Wastewater Treatment Department continues to meet NPDES permit requirements. Perform various manual, electrical and technical tasks of varying degrees of difficulty involving the inspection, operation, maintenance, installation and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Facility and the Collection Systems. Perform emergency and routine repairs on equipment to maintain the performance of the plant and collection systems. Provide technical advice on the operation and maintenance of the plant and collection systems. Set up, install and maintenance of emergency equipment; i.e.; electrical generators and portable pumps. Set up and operate crane trucks up to 18 ton capacity. Must operate Class B CDL requirement trucks. Certifications required in Forklift operator, Arc Flash, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, CPR & OSHA standards. Required to work from heights and in OSHA Permit Required Confined Spaces. This position requires being available to respond to and resolve any emergency issues that may arise and serve in an On-Call rotation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Other related duties may be assigned.

Perform maintenance and repairs on plant and lift station pumps and associated equipment. Maintenance includes oil changes, greasing, replacing worn bearings, gaskets, seals, gears, chains, and valves, inspection of pumps and motors, replacing fuses, motor starters, control switches, and troubleshooting electrical circuits. Recommends appropriate maintenance and repair and/ or operational changes to supervisor.

Perform scheduled maintenance of plant and collection systems. Assist contractors with repair and maintenance of the plant and collection system.

Install conduit for running electrical and/ or control wiring to plant and lift station equipment. Install copper and PVC piping and associated valves for water feed to plant process equipment.

Monitor and provide basic operation of the SCADA system. Respond to SCADA alarm/answering service/other associates phone calls and takes the necessary action to correct the problem in a timely manner. Transports, connects and maintains Emergency Electrical Generation Equipment. When on emergency call, must respond to ALL emergencies within 30 minutes from time when call is received. Must take appropriate action to ensure permit compliance and to protect the health and safety of the customers.

Document all maintenance performed including scheduled, nonscheduled and emergency repairs on plant and collections system equipment. Assist in maintaining inventory of parts and equipment.

Assist supervisor and

vendors/contractors

in providing technical advice and assistance on the operation and maintenance of the plant and collection systems. Provide direction and assistance to other associates with regard to operation and maintenance of the plant and collection systems.

Maintains clean, neat and organized work areas, equipment and tools.

Ability to Tig, Mig, Arc weld, solder & hot cutting. Ability to properly set up / install an emergency electrical generator and diesel portable pumps. Ability to operate boom and crane trucks up to 18 ton capacity. Troubleshooting and repairing of electrical controls and low & medium voltage circuits up to 480 Volts. Installation and repair of pipes, valves, gates and associated equipment. Proper use of hand, hand power tools & shop equipment tools such as: band saws, cut off saws, Milling Machine, sand blaster & drill presses.

Proper use of hand held electrical measuring devices such as multi meters, voltage and amperage meters Ability to read plant and collection system schematics, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. . Metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic and HVAC systems.

Work from heights and in OSHA Permit Required Confined Spaces. Proper use of safety related equipment, such as gas monitors, fall protection and retrieval devices.

Computer/Office equipment Skills: Utilizes the CMMS program.

Operation of remote acknowledgment and monitoring of SCADA alarms.

Licenses: Possess a valid drivers license. Possess or obtain at least a class B CDL license within 6 months. Crane Truck experience, Crane Operator Certification is preferred. Forklift Certification is required.

Work is performed in a potentially hazardous environment. Employee must take appropriate precautions to reduce risks of exposure to hazardous materials, confined spaces, mechanical and electrical exposures. When considered on emergency call duty, shall report within 30 minutes from time call is received. Must at all times be physically able to respond and take appropriate corrective action to resolve emergency situation. Works around moving equipment and in wet and damp environments and working outdoors in various adverse weather conditions. Will work under emergency conditions when quick response/repair is essential to maintain permit compliance. Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 lbs. (weight of manhole cover).Must be able to assume awkward positions while working in plant and collection systems. Must be able to sustain prolonged squatting, stooping, and crouching while working in plant and collection systems.

This position requires being available to respond to and resolve any emergency issues that may arise and serve in an On-Call rotation. Requires ability and willingness to work after or before normal work hours and to work any shift, holidays and weekends when needed.

Position will require employee to go out-of-doors and into various parts of the wastewater treatment plant and lift stations subjecting the incumbent to variations on temperature and humidity. Working conditions in the field are subject to extreme variations in temperature, humidity and can include high wind, rain, sleet, snow, etc. Frequently work on slippery surfaces. Some parts of the body may come into contact with oil, grease, wastewater, sludge and other products associated with the treatment of sewage. Will work from ladders, scaffolds, man basket or other equipment more than 12 feet above the ground. Will work below ground in OSHA Permit Required confined spaces.
