The Clinical Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment. Licensed as a Pharmacist with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy for continued employment. Experience
Required: N/A Preferred: Minimum of one year of pharmacy practice experience or residency training; previous experience with state-of-the-art drug distribution and clinical service methods. Education/Training
Required: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited program. Preferred: PGY1 or PGY2 ASHP-accredited residency, or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited program. Independent Actions
Monitoring, screening, and verifying drug-related orders for proper dosage, route, form, and schedule. Ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing of medications. Resolving drug therapy problems and clarifying problematic orders. Designating pharmacy technicians for special assignments and evaluating performance. Counseling patients on medication use. Monitoring medication effects and adjusting therapy as needed. Interacting with healthcare practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment. Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise Pharmacy Interns, Certified Pharmacy Technicians, and pharmacy residents as per relevant regulations and department policies. Additional Requirements
Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends. Physical and Mental Requirements
Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motions. Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking. Work Environment
