Advanced Practice Providers (APP) include Nurse Practitioners (NP), Physician Assistants (PA), or Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).
The APP is credentialed by the medical staff and functions within their scope of practice according to organizational bylaws. They provide evidence-based care for patient management, including assessment, planning, and evaluation of care, with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The APP demonstrates competency in age-appropriate care, family-centered support, psychological assistance, education, and discharge planning, collaborating with related disciplines.
The APP initiates, participates, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support education, quality improvement, and research initiatives. They contribute to professional development, lead within their clinical area, and promote the role of advanced practice providers. Qualifications Minimum Education Master's Degree in Nursing (NP), or Doctoral degree, from an accredited program, with eligibility for medical staff credentialing. For Physician Assistants: Master’s or Doctoral degree of Physician Assistant Studies, with eligibility for credentialing. For Clinical Nurse Specialists: Master’s or Doctorate in the specialty area, with eligibility for credentialing. Minimum Work Experience 0 years of experience as an APP. Required Skills/Knowledge Strong clinical knowledge and leadership skills. Excellent communication skills. Required Licenses and Certifications Licensure in practice state(s), CDS, DEA, and national certification (specific to role). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Functional Accountabilities Clinical Assess, diagnose, and monitor patients, developing care plans and prescribing therapies. Perform procedures after credentialing, participate in multidisciplinary care, and communicate effectively. Administrative Serve as a preceptor, provide educational presentations, and participate in quality improvement. Organizational Accountabilities Customer service, teamwork, performance improvement, cost management, and safety are emphasized.
